Dumont or Talon?

Any current info on these 91/135 ops? But advertising on the Orange site. Wilmington is a lot cheaper to live than Long Island.
Thanks.

Hands down Dumont if you can get in the door. I know quite a few of their folks and if I didn't have my current gig I'd be begging and pleading for a job there. Great group, good working environment, good equipment, and a great boss. I don't have any current info beyond that... sorry.

BobSakamano 03-04-2015 06:39 AM

I believe Dumont is a home based gig, too.

EIR10 03-09-2015 09:48 AM

They require you to live in base first year and 2nd year you have the option for home basing.

say again 03-09-2015 12:11 PM

Don't know much about Dumont, but have heard from a few to stay away from Talon. This is all here say as I've never worked there.

starcheckers 03-09-2015 04:04 PM

From what I have heard,Dumont seems like a nice place to work! 3 of my co-horts were offered a position with the company and were never hired. There is a young guy who does the hiring and from what I've heard he promises the job but never delivers!

Jetlife 03-09-2015 06:57 PM

Dumont has a lot of great people working there. I have heard nothing but bad things about Talon.

Boris Badenov 03-29-2015 07:01 PM

I don't know anything beyond third hand about Talon, but I work at Dumont, and as far as I can tell, it's one of the best if not the best charter jobs out there. No job is perfect, of course, but I've never been lied to, the people are cool, the pay is decent, good schedule, home-basing...

Been here a bit over a year and I'm definitely still two thumbs up.

av8n 03-30-2015 04:31 AM

^ never been lied to!!!!!!

Record scratch,,,,what, that's happened to every job I've ever had.

I've seen conflicting information about this. Would you mind sharing your source?

This seems to change often. I think it partially (but not entirely) has to do with what airplane you're on. When I was hired, it was six months in DE and you can go home. I wound up staying out there for a year because of a lease. New guys on the Hawker seem to be from the east coast, mostly. I think the Challengers (at least for now) require PBI or NYC area. Not sure about the Falcons or what will happen when the Gulfstreams come online. Best way to find out is to apply, I guess. Per the CP: "We're always hiring".

It's certainly rare enough. The CP is a great advocate for the pilots. If he says something is going to happen, it will happen. That alone makes it a much better place to work than your average charter op.

Edit: To clarify, when I was hired, typed guys were home based DOH. I was not typed.

Question

I heard Talon can't find people but will work you to death! Dumont, on the other hand, keeps advertising on the Orange site. Is this just a usual repeat on the Orange site or can Dumont not find people?

Is the pilot shortage ramping up? Hell, FedEx does not have too many who want to go abroad and most would have killed years ago.

I'm fairly sure Alex has a big stack of resumes, but over the last year, we've gone from 5 airplanes to 12 (at last count...seems to change weekly), and the schedule has improved significantly. This means a lot of hiring!

Braniff DC8 04-02-2015 12:38 AM

Dumont Questions

Is a type a must at Dumont? Can you break down the current fleet as it only shows 2 Hawkers a Falcon 50 and a Challenger 601. That's 4 and there is 12? Sounds like the perfect job!

What is average Capt pay, bennies, uniforms etc...

Majestic Jet in FL seemed great too but they turned out to be a dud. Much like Talon Air is turning out to be.

DPApilot 04-02-2015 02:53 PM

The orange site postings are recycled. As of today, we have 5 Hawkers, 3 Falcon's, 2 601's and a G-IV.

Braniff DC8 04-02-2015 08:39 PM

Ok

So is it YES on hiring and YES on type? What if you have a similar type?

Sounds like a really nice company!

Thank you for the info.

As of the last ad, no type required for Hawker pilots (both FOs and CAs). The bigger planes require a type for CAs and the FOs seem generally to come from within. This by no means official just what I've observed.

Braniff DC8 04-03-2015 10:39 PM

Alright

So you're saying there's a chance!

What's all that one in a million talk?

Can't win if you don't play. Put your stuff in, see what Lady Luck has in store.

Braniff DC8 04-04-2015 09:36 PM

The facebook page is good!

So are they in fact hiring?

Thanks to you as well Boris.

Boris Badenov 04-05-2015 04:28 PM

Again, from what I've been told, we're "always hiring".

Good luck.

LivnthedrM 04-06-2015 12:40 PM

Anyone getting a call for an interview? If so could you share your experience? Seems like a good gig

Ugh135 04-14-2015 09:11 AM

Dumont vs Talon? Thats like being asked if you want your nuts slammed in the door of a Toyota or a Nissan.

Do you have any validity behind your statement or are you just looking to make a splash on your first comment?

Yes. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

No one can PM you until you have a set amount of posts... I'd be interested in hearing your complaints with Dumont. I may consider them as a potential employer in the coming months. What didn't you like? Where do you find fault? Have you worked for Talon to be in a suitable place to offer guidance between the two operators? I only know people who speak Dumonts' praises so I'd be very interested in hearing any grievances you'd like to air.

Boris Badenov 04-15-2015 02:10 PM

Heh the guy's name is "Ugh135" and clearly registered specifically to respond to this thread. I uhm rather suspect that he won't be reaching the required 10 posts any time soon, and that if he does, he won't be telling anyone who he is. That's just what I predict...

Could you elaborate on this? How are 3 people offered a job, but never hired? There has to be more to the story.

Fetzervalve 04-18-2015 08:44 AM

Are most Talon pilots dual rated on the H4000?

Braniff DC8 04-18-2015 08:29 PM

What exactly do you mean dual rated on the H4000? I believe Talon only has that version of the Hawker. Btw, they are pretty desperate and will work you to death. It's what I heard.

Sorry - I meant do they fly at least two types including the H4000 given the size of that fleet?

Braniff DC8 04-19-2015 10:57 PM

I do not think all of the pilots are but some are. I think the FAA has clamped down on them a bit.

Crockrocket94 04-21-2015 07:34 PM

Dumont is a dynamic company that is for sure. Gotta respect the growth!

FlyGuy91 05-01-2015 12:20 PM

I had a similar experience myself... It does not seem to be uncommon with Dumont Aviation.

LivnthedrM 05-08-2015 11:10 AM

Nothing but crickets from those of you who say you were offered the job, but never saw day 1 with Dumont. Anytime one of you is willing to elaborate feel free to send me a message.

Braniff DC8 03-15-2016 09:23 AM

Any latest on Dumont. Another ad for Hawker and Falcon pilots. No need for the rating? I keep applying but nothing.

ClncClarence 03-16-2016 12:48 PM

I was just recently hired on the Falcon...I believe there are several new guys on the Hawkers as well.

oldschoollear 04-10-2016 04:20 PM

I've had two phone interviews with Dumont, one with HR, the second with the DO. Both were basic "get to know you" HR interviews revolving around my work history and strengths/weaknesses. The DO interview ended with an invite for a face-to-face interview that will be scheduled this week. Point of Interest, I'm interviewing for the a Hawker PIC position and I am not typed.
