I am interested in the 135 style flying, though the money of a 121 job is not bad. Seems like 2022 or so is going to be a great time to find a job.

I understand the progression from SIC to PIC in the 121 world, seems like more opportunities for a direct entry to the left seat in the 135 world.

I am hearing that I need to keep building hours where I can and something north of 4000 total makes me competitive?
Depends on how good of a job you want. For the top jobs, especially PIC, I think it will take more time, plus a type rating in that specific type, plus PIC time in type after the type rating, plus you may need to know somebody...

It can happen but there are no magic bullets.

Direct entry to captain in the 135 world usually requires a type rating in that aircraft and at least a couple of hundred hours in type. There are exceptions - but most ads looking for captains expect the type and time.
