Default How to market yourself?

I am looking for advice on how to market yourself to the GA population in your area that you are available for flight instruction, BFR's, IPC's, etc.

I was part-time flight instructing at my school, but we are not getting a new class this fall and extra students will be scarce. I am picking up work teaching two people in their own aircraft this fall but that will end soon. I was wondering how to find extra work. I know word of mouth is probably the best form of advertising, but have any of you had any luck with other means?

Contact/join the local EAA chapter (if there is one) and advertise in their newsletter/website/clubhouse.

Post a brief note about your services at all local FBO's

Is there a local Civil Air Patrol?

Visit local FBO's and see what kinds of magazines are laying around - sometimes their are regional rags that might take advertising.

If you're near Columbia, SC I need an instructor for a BFR/IPC. I don't have a plane (anymore )

How big are your boobs?

Thanks for the advice. I did not think of contacting the local EAA chapter.

I am not in SC area, more of the central IL area.

I am trying to avoid man boobs.

try to get a job pumping gas @ the local FBO. If you aren't booked solid with students, you should be able to do this part time. Its great for networking

I would def keep any and all man cleavage well covered up

May sound simple but put something on Craigslist. May get you a hit or two from someone needing an IPC or FR.

Word of mouth is of course the best way to gain new students, but developing an instructional clientele is really no different than developing contacts in the corporate aviation world. You need to network, and you need to be visible at the airport.
