Hmm, low time pilot looking to get into a fast turboprop for a minimum of dosh?

What you need, sir, is an MU-2!

Guessing a bit of sarcasm? Seriously though, I ran checks in the MU-2 (Marquise, so Dash-10 engines) from DET to CVG in the middle of the night single pilot for a while. I actually love the airplane-one caveat: fly it regularly and get recurrent training. I recently consulted with a physician who was interested in one and he decided that on 15-20 hours a month it was probably not the best plane for him. Also biggest problem with private owners is that they underestimate mx costs. You have got to seriously stay in tune with mx on the Mitz. Oh. And don't do NTS checks in the middle of the night in IFR conditions, killing yourself and giving the plane a bad rap.

Std Deviation:

I did about 1400 hours of the same stuff you did and I agree with everything you said. It's a brilliant airplane and 95% of its bad Rep comes from people being inadequately trained or current.

But yes, I was being a little bit sarcastic as the OP sounds like the summary of the logbook of a guy who crashes a Mitsi (no offense to the OP)!

Not to mention the other smaller items that need more detail in flight in a turbine that a piston would not have. I'd say it would be better off for you to go with a Cabin class piston like was mentioned earlier

Just curious what you are currently flying? I tracked your old posts and saw you have previously asked about a variety of twin Cessna models. Did anything come of that, and why are you now on turbines?

Not to mention, with a 'few hours in a King Air', you're going to be a hell of a lot cheaper to insure in a piston.

I fly a 414 pretty regularly. Excellent airplane.
IIRC the 441 trued at 310, not exactly a slow poke. That's with the -10s though.

+1 If you add vortex generators, the payload gets pretty close to a 421 without those touchy geared engines.

Have you considered a Caravan? From this and your other posts, the Van might be a reasonable choice. Depending on the number of friends and the amount of bags, a 400 series could be weight restricted. A corporate Van I flew could carry me, half a dozen big ol' boys, and hunting gear with plenty to spare.

While the Van is no speed demon, flying around Texas the slower speed isn't much of a factor (from Dallas, Odessa, Houston, and San Antonio are all within two hours).

If you are thinking about flying it for him, you might want to start off talking with an insurance agent. I don't know what your times are, but the insurance for an Private IFR Owner Operator cost was so much higher than hiring a Commercial or ATP, the extra money is about the same as the pilot's salary.
