Oh I figured SBY wasn't bad, but you DO see management. They never bug us in MDT, but we do have payroll and crew planning here if you ever need to talk to them and they don't answer the phone (though that would never happen here at PDT!).
I just had to standup for MDT since I hear from other people that we have a reputation for being a bunch of old angry people. I flew a trip with a SBY crew on a standby day and when the captain found out I was MDT he gave me a sarcastic "oh!"...as in "you're one of THOSE guys." I'm proud to be Piedegheny! |

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies so far. I have heard both good and bad about SBY but seems like a good choice at the time just because I want to spend as little as possible time on reserve and SBY seems to be able to offer that. :D Once I get some seniority and can hold a line, I will most likely make a move to LGA. Much closer, and I have lived in NYC in the past and am familiar with the area, and like being in NYC so that would be a good deal. flynwmn, PM sent. MDT also seems to be a pretty good option, I guess it is also a pretty commutable base? With lots of flights going in and out to PHL daily? So that might be an option as well. So far every crew I have came across seems to have been pretty good, so what everyone says about Piedmonsters so far has held true. Keep info commin :D Hey! |

I agree, MDT is a fine base. I commute from BOS, and there is a direct flight so its easy (although the shuttle from LGA to BOS tempts me to move my base to LGA from time to time). And there's probably only one or two CA's who aren't as fun to fly with... Other than that, its a great group of people to work with! If you are a commuter, I would highly recommend MDT over LGA. LGA may have more options for getting home, but this is the way I've seen it so far (or at least the way I've talked myself out of moving to LGA so far): -LGA has more out and backs (with 1 hour taxis in LGA. And you tend to time out a lot more. And those perpetual delays mess with your life) and I get almost all 3 and 4 day trips in MDT. That per diem makes a difference. -LGA crash pads are probably about 100-200 a month more than crash pads in MDT and they tend to have waiting lists. So call around early before you're based there. -Parking is more challenging in LGA. You can leave your car for as long as you want in MDT. Parking at your crash pad in LGA may be more challenging too not sure... Anyways, just some thoughts. I just know most of my friends who are based in LGA are based there because they live there. Any commuters in LGA feel free to chime in and change my mind... |
OK guys. Change of plans.... talk about last second. I didnt know new base bids were comming out.
Either way, they switched me and now im based in MDT. Dont mind MDT but I start reserve monday, and it looks like ill be living in my Golf.
