Not a CRJ, and I don't think they went into P56, just lost radio contact.

An unauthorized aircraft entered restricted airspace over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC., Saturday, prompting an evacuation of the Capitol.

The inbound aircraft, a Piedmont Airlines flight from Hilton Head, S.C., was first spotted in the restricted airspace at 1:30 p.m. As a precautionary measure, buildings were evacuated and secured, said the U.S. Capitol Police in an email.

I think they entered P56.

IDK. I saw plenty of people in NYC last night bringing in the New Year.

Amen brother. It's amazing how easy it is to make the most "powerful" country in the world run scared.

And a note to the crack squad of geniuses in charge of security and the airspace in and around D.C.: If you are evacuating a building (especially one the size of the Capitol building) AFTER an aircraft penetrates P-56, it is too late. You have failed.

Sorry, I was so offended that the venerable Dash 8 was described as your run of the mill RJ I must have missed that part. On the other hand, we are talking about the press, and an aircraft losing radio contact anywhere near DC could be described as "in restricted airspace over the Captiol".
