Default A nice way to start AND end your day!

I work out of Ft Pierce, FL, and I have become aware of an accident at Ari-Ben Aviator. A 19 year old British girl was killed in La Belle, FL while on her 3rd solo (a cross-country). This has inspired me to give you guys/gals a starting place for prayer. I believe it has nearly been forgotten in this field. Pray before every checkride with your instructor, pray before every flight. PRAISE after every time you kill the fuel! Please don't publish these as your own. These are prayers (possibly not very good ones at that), but not literature.

The Pilot's Prayer
Oh My God!
I praise Thee for protecting me thus far!
Continue to protect and bless me, Father.
I want to continue flying,
In your Holy Name.
The skies are volatile,
Yet You have kept them calm,
Continue to protect my craft,
Dear Father,
And make it safer than ever.

Please remind me of safety,
And to look outside my bubble!
There are airplanes like mosquitoes down here!
Let not others' guard falter nor fail,
Keep their eyes aware,
There is a job to be done,
A place to go,
A site to see,
A rating sought,
But most importantly,
YOU are what we all should seek.
Let us all fly with safety and wisdom,
Whilst we disrupt Thine air masses,
Protect us, Lord,
From all adversities.

I trust in You, God,
Make Thine Angels fly as fast as I do!
"My Guardian Angel is Turbine Powered"
Keep Thine Saving Grace over my craft,
In your Heavenly Name,
Amen.

The Student's Prayer
Holy Father,
Blessed Jesus,
Flowing Spirit,
I Praise you for protecting me thus far.
I Pray Thine Holy Hand be placed upon me,
While I learn how to dwell closer to Heaven.
Grant me a clear and understanding mind.

Give me peace,
Grant me courage,
Grant me wisdom, most of all,
I wish to learn to fly,
If it be Thine Holy Will.
Please help my instructor teach me,
With the knowledge and wisdom of ages,
Grant him the way to give me Faith in myself.
Most of all,
Grant him the ability to remind me,
Of that Faith I have in Thine Ever Lasting ways.

Bless the mechanics,
That their hands move with skill, knowledge, and esteem.
Make this craft flawless in every safe way.
Please protect me whilst I "solo,"
And give me courage to remain calm,
Grant me peace so I may know what to do next!
Please protect me after I obtain this certificate,
If it be Thine Will,
And protect those around me,
So they may know Your Gracious Mercy and Power.

In Thine Most Holy Name,

Amen.

The Flight Instructor's Prayer
My God,
My Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ,
Holy Spirit,
I call upon Thee to protect me.
I pray Thine power will cover me from danger.
Keep my eyes not affixed,
Keep my wits ever sharp,
I call upon Thee, Lord,
While I dwell amongst Thine skies.

Keep my words straight,
And my ears always as ears,
Make me keen to sense danger,
And wise to avoid all blunders.
Please help me teach as You did,
Except in the ways of Heavenly soaring,
My students depend on me,
Just as I depend on You.

Protect my Students,
Those that You know so well,
While I let them fly by themselves.
Please, Dear Lord,
After they have left my protection,
Let them fall into Your safety with no gaps.
Protect them from all dangers, My God,
As You have protected me.
Grant them wisdom,
Let not carelessness enter their hearts,
Grant them divine skill, Lord,
Bless them over flowingly,
Just as You have so graciously blessed me.

Make Thine Blessing to me,
So unbelievably obvious,
That even pilots not on the same frequency,
Know Your everlasting Power and Mercy.
Therefore, protect them, Dear Lord,
From all dangers and fear,
In Thine Beautiful Name,
I pray Thy will be done,
On earth, and Your skies,
As it is in Heaven.

I trust most Highly in Thee,
And no one,
Nor anything else.

Amen.

Wow, even considering that you realize I would most likely not appreciate something like that, you say it. Thanks.

No offense intended- I actually carry the travelers prayer in my pocket. When I posted my first post, you didn't have the initial paragraph at the top. I removed my post. (BTW, it was an actual prayer, made by Alan Shepard right before his first flight into space).

ya know what? I suppose my posting this is in actuality not being PC. So I suppose I will apoligize as well. Apparently this is why they do not let people post religious material. If you ask ME personally, and many MANY pilots... I would imagine they feel that some sort of a being, whether it be Beowolf (a joke really) or God, has kept them safe... no harm meant to any other religion when I posted those. Just making a point that religion should not necesarilly be banned from postings... anyone agree to that? It's fair enough if they do not want it posted... I am just trying to spread the good news like my heart is telling me I ought to!

Theprofessionalpilot,

I respectfully suggest then, that you are as open to others' views as you'd like them to be of your views. It seems to me you were hoping for a one-way discourse. You might find it'll serve you better.

After several complaints on the thread (for several different reasons), I'm going to close it.

It's also worth noting our forum rules:

http://forums.airlinepilotcentral.co...cement.php?f=8 which provides guidance on religious and politically themed posts.

I appreciate and respect the intent of the prayer posts, although many of responses have the potential to be offensive to the author. The anonymity of this forum, and anonymous forums on the Internet in general, do not foster a healthy venue for these emotionally charged topics. That's one reason we have a published policy asking that they not be presented on our forums.

As pilots, we all have varied backgrounds, interests, experiences, and beliefs, however, Airline Pilot Central exists to focus on one commonality: Aviation.
