Hi all, I had my medical taken away last year because of a cyst in my brain that led to a VP shunt being placed. Standard protocol is to have to wait 2 years from placement of shunt to re-apply for a medical certificate. Is there anything at all I can do? Or am I stuck waiting the whole 2 years? It is just very frustrating because I am completely fine cognitively and physically, but still have to wait the 2 years. Thanks in advance for any and all input!

You'd have to talk to an aviation medicine consultant (AMAS, etc.), your specialty docs can't really address the ins and outs of FAA policy, and your AME probably doesn't have the technical expertise on this one, although you could start with him... he'd probably know if they EVER waive such waiting periods.
