Default Initial Special Issuance For SSRI

Hey everyone,

I was curious if anyone had recently gone through the initial SSRI clearance process for a special issuance medical. My paperwork has been sent to D.C. but as most can imagine no responses from calling and leaving voicemails inquiring about where my paperwork is in the process. Has anyone gone through lately and how long did it take?

It took about 4-5 months for me to get the authorization letter and medical certificate issued from DC for SSRI. It has to go all the way to the top of the chain (federal flight surgeon/staff) I would give them at least 3 months then start calling the OKC service desk 2x a week (early morning is the best time to get through) and they will put a note in your file saying you called. Also call your regional flight surgeon's office once a week as well.

Default Melanoma

I had a melanoma, not metastatic. Submitted special issuance thru my pilot union(APA) Jan 27. Scanned in Jan 31st and still waiting. Really amazing they can’t even tell you how far down in the cue you are
also went to local AME March 1 as new medical was due, they transmitted on March 3, still shows under review. OKC office said they are running 3-4 weeks currently for new medical, but won’t give answer on special issuance. Regional flight surgeon always just directs me to OKC
