Default ribs and dope

question: busted a rib this weekend and the doc (non AME) gave me oxycodone for the pain...question is how long is this stuff in your system? Ergo, how long do I have to be clear of it before it won't affect flying OR show up in drug screening...

Don't you list any prescription drugs that you might be taking when you do your drug screening?

As I understand it, it is out of your system in 24-72 hours... BUT if you are still on it when you take a drug screening, all you have to do is take your pill bottle and let the person conducting the test know that you are on it. If you dont tell them, it will show up and you are done.... Full disclosure is always the best bet...

Also, with any prescription drugs, you should consult an AME before taking it. There are a lot of medications that make your medical null and void. An AME can help you avoid losing your medical for 6 months.

its actually only 90 days that you have to be completely off a disqualifying medicine... but in the end it is closer to 6 months if you take in to account how slow the FAA is with that stuff... haha

I have had a few students recently have to go through this....

I am also thinking the original question didnt have to do with a medical, but more with a pre-employment or random drug test....

But after re-reading, oxycodone is a form of codeine, and therefor has lingering effects as far as motor skills, judgement, ect... I would give it a few days after stopping just to be safe.

My AME told me 48 hours for Oxycodone, unless I had other lingering effects (my discretion- he wrote a note for 96 hours off).
