Airlines Hiring and Lasik?
My question regards being having Lasik and try to get hired at an airline.
Are there any airlines out there that will not hire a pilot that has had Lasik done? I know personally that there are guys out there at almost every airline that has had it done, however these guys I know have had it done once they were hired (all I know have lots of seniority). My concern is if you have had the procedure done before you get hired, are there any carriers out there that will not concider someone if they have had Lasik.

I heard that as long as you have corrective lenses, you can still be a pilot...I heard that you do need 20/20 to become a fighter pilot though...but hey, it's more dangerous anyways...and I could be wrong but I've got the same issue as you and heard bad rumors as well, so I went ahead and asked the advisor at Spartan and that's what he told me...

PLTwnab, you do not need 20/20 to become a fighter pilot in the Air Force. You can wear contacts and glasses. The requirements do change periodically. You need to meet those reqs and then do well enough in the T-6 to track fighter/bombers, and then do well enough to get a fighter, and then continue to do well in AT-38s, then make it through the centifuge, and then again at the school house for your specific fighter you need to graduate.
I know this is an old thread, but someone may have the same question.
And no I am not a fighter pilot, but I have a grasp of the goings on.
