Default IND or ATL AME recommendations?

I'd prefer to stay near IND for it, but if there's some good AMEs out in ATL, I'll take the ride over.
I know there's a few around (IND), but I don't know anything about them. Anyone have any experience or recommendations to share?

On top of that, who would be a good person (or place) to discuss any concerns I have about the medical, without putting it at risk? First time medical here, so I'm not even sure what to expect.

SW,

I go to Hendricks Regional Health Center in Brownsburg. Dr. Brett Graham and Dr. Mark Schopper are really nice and professional. Both are authorized to give First Class medicals. I highly recommend either of the two.

Here are their links:

Also:

317-858-4610 for appointments.

(Dr. Schopper isn't one of those "touchy-feely" types, if you get my drift.)

I'll second both of those recommendations - I've been seeing Graham for years now as both my AME and primary physician with no complaints, and have friends who use Schopper and are quite happy.

Sounds like graham is worth the drive (not that it's that far away). Thanks for the reccomendation! Do you know how they are about past, but not current, psych conditions, or is that more up to the FAA than the AME? That's what I'm most concerned about.

I could not speak intelligently to that question, but I suspect it's more of an FAA thing. I think AOPA has a member service which could possibly help address that issue (you ARE an AOPA member, right?). I'd definitely place a call to member services and see if they can't help you with that question.

There are actually 3 AME's in that one practice - Graham, Schopper, and Wilmont, but the latter is in the guard or reserves and so I don't think he's as active currently.

In any case do NOT start filling out the FAA application until you know the "issue" won't be an issue. Consult with someone knowledgeable on FAA stuff, though. Psych issues are potentially a big deal. AOPA is fine; there's also a medical section on the AOPA forums that is pretty good. If you're already a member then forum "advice" is free; the member services thing now costs extra, I think.

You can possibly consult with the doctor, too, without doing the medical.
