Default Have med condition need help.

Most likely the same with everyone here i have always been fascinated with flying planes. In-fact i have racked up 450 Flight Hours on FSX.

Sad truth of reality is me being born with a muscle Dieasese. Its my own mutation that stems off of Thomson Dieasese. Basically my only issue is standing up right off the back. Which takes me around a minute or two to accomplish. Other then that i have no problem using my feet to drive a car long distance. As im sitting and the pressure put on my legs is lessen giving me the ability to due this.

I have my Meeting with the Medical Eximiner in a couple months. Recently have stopped drinking, smoking cigs, and marijuana because im really into it. Allthought i had fun and am in college i know that the combination of those will not help me what so ever in my attempts to be a pilot.

Anyway back to the question.

I have had a Muscle Bioposy.
MRI on my head
EKG
Other test were they stick something into my muscle and so forth.

I def wanna get these?

Not needed but would it be a good idea to have a letter from my neurologist stating his personal opinion of the matter. The only reason i want to pick him is because he diagnosed me. I know im going to get Differed to OK CITY.

But other then that my hearing is great and my eyes are twenty twenty.

Im hoping that at the least i would be able to become a first officer. For those of you who have been threw the process. On the FAA site it says that you can still get a job with disability. What do you think my chance is off being able to become a pilot.

Im really doing my hardest working out everyday and eating healty. Do you think i would be able to land a job working as a regional or even latter International?

If they wont let me fly then i will do what ever i can to stay around the airline industry. CHEERS.
Sincerely, Kevin Goetschkes Flinn

Smoking weed had best be a thing of the distant past. You might want to ask the moderators of this board to remove your post as any employer would not want to hire you when they have an internet post associating your name with smoking an illegal substance. As all safety sensitive positions in aviation are tested for those substances which include pot among others, the acknowledgement online can kill your career before you even start.

Second, I suggest contacting, privately, the aviation medical examiner that posts on the jetcareers.com forum. Besides the weed and any addiction issues coming from that (remember, the FAA is stuck in 19th century medicine, they are conservative in the highest order), the FAA's biggest concern would be the issues with standing up. If there is a loss of conscious issue where there is a risk of you passing out (perhaps from low blood pressure), expect to be denied. This will close off all paths to becoming a pilot, including a sport pilot, where you could fly based on having a driver's license.

If it simply takes time for you to be able to stand up, there are paraplegics flying, albeit not at airlines. They can get paid to fly, though, look up the Wheelchair Aviator's Association. The founder flies commercially.

It may be worth a call and even paying for the service of AMAS, a private company that helps pilots through medical certification. They can tell you if you have a chance, and if you do, what reports and records you would need to gather, and any tests you have to take. They may suggest you travel to visit a specialist, which could cut down on the certification review time.

Good luck!

Thanks for answering his questions, jedinein.

The OP triggered my troll-o-meter - grammar, spelling, mary jane, flt sim, rare disease, low post count, etc.

pfunk - best of luck to you in your endeavors, no matter which side of the bridge you live on.

your best (and only) course of action: apply for a medical airman's certificate and ask the AME to defer decision to FAA versus an outright denial by him. The FAA will then outline a course of action for you. FAA form 8500-8 - - fill in all information truthfully!
