Kidney donation and FAA medicals

Hey guys and gals, I have a hypothetical question. If one were to dontate a kidney to a loved one to save them. Would that person who is otherwise perfectly healthy, young and fit lose their medical? I would expect yes, or at least just be off all flying duties until cleared by their AME some months later. This must not come up often as I cannot find any data on being a donor, only receiving a transplant.
From what I hear, the donor usually has a harder time than the recipient during recovery. Long story short, I may be a good match for a family member (also the only) who may very well need it unless things improve. So i need to know what the deal would be with my career at that point. Wouldnt change my decision if it came to actually doing it, but of course, I would want to know if my flying days are over. Also, for you military guys. What about Army NG or ANG flying positions?

Thank you for your responses.

I am almost positive I read a thread on here a few years back asking essentially the same question. Not dogging you for not doing a search by any means, just trying to point you in the right direction...

If I remember correctly, you can get your medical back after a kidney donation. Best wishes to you and your family member! It's very generous of you to consider such a procedure in our line of work!

Thanks! Good to know it has been broight up before. Ill do another search just in case i missed it. Ill be honest i only looked at the first page of results. All of which involved the recipient, not the donor. Ill try and find that thread. It should help alot. Thanks EM.
