PSA Pay and Benefits

PSA Pay and Benefits

Here is a thread for just pay and benefits.

I'll start off with training pay.

As a new hire, you get 75 hours credit a month at your FO pay rate, plus per diem 24/7.

Per diem is currently $42/day. So, when you are in class in Dayton, you receive $42/day for the entire time (even weekends and days off), plus the 75 hours of pay.

The hourly rate changes, but it currently $38.88/hour.

$38.88x75= $2,916.00
$42x30= $1,260.00

So, training pay is $4,176 for a month. You get this in addition to any new hire bonuses.

All training is single occupancy hotel, and they are provided by the company.

Again, there is no training contract.

Current Blended Rates

Note: We get paid based on our fleet composition. As we add more 700's (or 900's), we get paid a little more per hour. This is calculated every quarter. We also get other annual pay raises as is described in our contract.

Note: FO pay was recently changed. All first year FO's got bumped up to "year 3" pay, which is now at $38.88. All FOs on property more than 1 year are on what used to be year 4 pay ($40.28). So, even though there are no pay rates after the second year, you are already getting what the year 4 rates would have been.

Year... Captain Pay......... F/O Pay
1....... $65.55 ......... $38.88
2....... $68.43 ......... $40.28
3....... $70.27
4....... $73.24
5....... $75.42
6....... $77.69
7....... $79.33
8....... $81.68
9....... $84.21
10...... $86.69
11...... $89.26
12...... $91.90

10...... $86.69
11...... $89.26

So with the captain pay, for the sake of conversation, if you upgrade right at 24 months, will your captain pay rate be $68.43, or will it be the year 1 captain pay rate of $65.55?

Also, thanks for going the extra mile (or 10), that you do to provide all of the great info about the ins and outs of the company.

Your longevity carries over. Year 2 upgrade, year 2 pay.

I have a question on pay dates and pay periods.
I believe it says somewhere the paychecks are twice a month (the 1st and 15th presumably).
When does the pay period end?
If it's a week before, then a class date on the 8th would have a first paycheck on June 1st for covering ~ 1 week and first "full" paycheck June 15th?
Thanks

We're paid on the 5th and the 20th. The 5th check has half of the prior month's guarantee, while the 20th has half of the current month's guarantee plus any per diem and overages due from the previous month. In your scenario you should technically get paid on the 20th right after you start, however you usually aren't in payroll that quickly so your 5th check would include the normal half guarantee plus whatever you would have been paid on the prior 20th.

Anyone at Psa know how long medical benefits take to kick in and what monthly premiums are for a decent plan? Thanks.

90 days from DOH, and the benefits are on par with most insurance plans. There's and A Plan and a B Plan. I chose the B plan, as it's a lower monthly cost (like $324 per month).

Upntheair27 05-02-2017 01:57 PM

Where are you getting 38.88 from? I'm first year and only getting 38.50. Did this just change in april?

The waiting period is 90 days. If you are coming from another job, and have benefits, check into to COBRA coverage AND a bridge policy. Obamacare is still the law right now and insurance coverage is still required even if you are changing employers.

I called USAA and asked for this information. The agent was positive COBRA coverage would be less expensive. He was wrong. The COBRA coverage my previous employer had available was $500 a month higher.

A lot of insurance companies offer gap coverage, which is what I got for my first 90 days at PSA. It's basically a major medical policy in case you get run over by a bus, and for a family of 4 it was less than $200/month. COBRA tends to be VERY expensive as it's essentially your old employer-sponsored health care plan except you pay both the employee and employer part of the premiums. Most employers tend to pick up 2/3 t0 3/4 the overall premium cost.

That's the new blended rate that started 2Q2017 (increase in the number of 700 frames)

Good info, thanks.......after the 90 days any ideas on monthly price for B plan for family of 4? (I believe I understood a previous poster to say $324 for B plan not sure how many people were covered on that policy.)

As many as are in your family. Keep popping 'em out!

Looks like Trans States Airlines just upped the ante!

From Trans States Airlines' APC profiles page:

"* Now offering $30,000 in signing and retention bonuses to new hire First Officers and $21,000 in signing and retention bonuses to new hire Captain Qualified First Officers".

I guess PSA can no longer brag that they have industry-leading pay and benefits. Or at least, they SHOULDN'T brag that they have the industry-leading pay, et al.

frankgh 05-03-2017 08:43 PM

Hiring Captain Qualified FOs is not something to brag about.

Bhawkdrvr 05-07-2017 07:14 AM

Does PSA have profit sharing? If so, how much?

Yes. We get a percentage of AAG's profit for the year.

They gave it to us with no bargaining on our part. It was a "freebie". Last year, we got 3% of our paycheck. So, the more you make, the more profit sharing you got.

hawkman 05-09-2017 10:06 PM

It has been discussed before that there has been a very recent change in the timing of the payout of the new hire bonus. Anyone that has been in one of the most recent classes who had to wait for the hiring bonus, did you receive it A) after the checkride B) After IOE C) some other time after that?

It is paid the next paycheck after successful completion of the Initial PC Check in the sims at Charlotte.

Jmanter 05-10-2017 03:39 AM

Two weeks after being signed off from IOE. All depends on your paperwork going thru and timing of pay period

Uncle sam loves his 25%...

Jmanter 05-10-2017 03:41 AM

Myself and several guys got it a month after PC check. Mine happened to be two weeks after IOE check. Some paperwork they gave us said they can take up to 90 days if they need to, but haven't heard anyone wait nearly that long

Can someone explain the difference in the health benefits A and B plan and give an average cost for employee and 1 dependant for both plans? Thanks

B is $160 per paycheck for family. Don't recall if there is an employee and dependent option, may just be family or employee option.
A is at least double or more, lower out of pocket max and deductible. No real benifits if you and family are healthy enough to hold a medical.

tattooguy21 05-18-2017 02:19 PM

Any bonuses to foregoing coverage offered by PSA? I've already got a pretty sweety set up.

Nope, I wish. When I first went to work for ARINC in 2007 they paid me about $150 a month not to use their insurance.

On your paycheck :-) You sign a promissory note stating bonus has to be paid back if you leave (full amount <1 year and prorated after up to 2 years) so not training contract but promissory note...

Two questions about critical days.

1. Do you have to pick the trip up after the day goes critical for you to receive critical pay?

2. If on the far right side of the reserve grid it says "critical status" even though the day isn't red anymore, do you still get critical pay if you pick something up?

TallFlyer 06-01-2017 08:08 AM

As long as a given day was a day off on your final award, it doesn't matter when you picked it up. Before or after it went critical, it's still makes the trip touching that day critical.

Once a day has gone critical, they can't rescind it.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the help. And the critical status on the right does mean that that day is critical, correct?
