1st and 2nd year FO pay

A couple of quick questions here; in one of the RTP recruiting briefs I attended, $55k was mentioned for first year FO and $60k for second year. They also said that $40.22 was the hourly pay for the first year.

From what I’ve read since, I see no mention of the second year pay and the first year hourly pay I see on this website is about $38 an hour. Anyone have an idea of what’s correct for the first year hourly pay and what to expect in total compensation for second year as an FO?

Thanks!

$40.22 x 1000 hours: 40,220
$2,500 retention per quarter x 4 quarters: 10,000

The 1000 hours are credit. You won't get all four quarters of retention as you will be forced to upgrade.

You will also get maybe only 2 or 3 retention bonuses of 2,500 due to some wording about quarterly payouts before you upgrade.

If you include per diem, you can make the numbers get you to $60k, superficially.

It’s currently $38.88 year 1 and $40.22 year 2. You get a nice $16,520 bonus for walking in the door plus an additional $5000 for having a CL-65 type rating. The retention bonus structure is all based on the first full quarter worked. For example if you hire on in January of 18 you will not get a bonus until the beginning of Q3 in 2019. The idea is you didn’t work the full first quarter of the previous year. That would mean if you weren’t fOrced to upgrade you would get bonuses Q4 2019, Q1 2020 and Q2 2020 to get you to the $10,000 retention bonus.

Thanks a lot for the information. All very helpful. On the per diem, how is that billed? I know that its paid 24/7 for the FO academy but how does it work during a normal schedule? For example, if I'm on a 4 day trip, am I compensated at $1.75x24x4? Or is it per flight hour?

Thanks again!

Per Diem is based off time away from base if I remember correctly

Time away from base. If that 81.3 hours for a trip then it's $1.75 times 81.3. It's not based on calendar days.

That makes sense, thanks!
