PSA Classes

Is PSA still running a couple classes each month?

Noticed that some other regional's like RPA and Endeavor have halted hiring till Q4 this year.

I've been on airline interviews and have noticed that people who've been offered jobs at PSA have been selecting classes anywhere from 1 week after interviewing if they have the hours all the way till November 2019.

Just curious if things are backing up and its getting harder to get a slot if offered the position.

Thanks

Yes. Last I heard is they’re still somewhat full.

PeakEGT 02-17-2019 07:48 AM

March 11 is the earliest they offered me for ATP/CTP. Extending every two weeks until May 20. Actual ground training/Indoc hasn’t been discussed

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I'm hoping if I get offered the job after my interview I can get a May ATP/CTP date. That should give me a little buffer in case things slow down at my CFI gig and not sweat the start date.

Would you mind PM'ing me when you find out any info for ground/indoc?

I don't think PSA is utilizing any breaks in training. We've been sustaining 60/month starting training for about 2 years. Pretty sure we've got it figured out, unlike some of our sister companies (looking at you, Piedmont).

You should start indoc the Monday after you complete ATP/CTP, assuming you pass the ATP written (don't forget to work on the Sheppard Air study materials).

RPA isn’t not hiring until Q4. Every class is just already completely full for the year due to interest. No need to hire more if already hired what’s needed for the year..

Awesome! Thank you very much for the info! Much appreciated!

For those of you joining recently, What is the TT to start CTP? Every regional has different numbers. XJT starts you at 1428TT (72 short, that you get in sim) and RJT for example 1480TT

Thanks!

Approach1260 02-19-2019 10:05 AM

So long as you're projected to hit whatever time is required to get your full/restricted ATP by the time class starts you're good to go.

2992set 03-22-2019 05:28 PM

can someone PM me if they interviewed recently?

I believe the company slowed it a bit to stop the backlog of sim sessions. Still around 20 a class.

Is PSA still forcing people to upgrade? Still hiring? How many on the list?

We are still forcing upgrades. Some classes have around 5 forced upgrades and others have none. There would probably be more, but there are quite of few FOs submitting bids just to avoid being forced into a base they don’t want to end up in.

Still hiring but I’m not in the training department so I’m not sure about specifics.

The last seniority list showed 2073 total pilots so we should be above 2100 when the February or March lists come out.

We are definitely overstaffed. SAPping down is a factor but it doesn’t account for everything. We’re close to 50% of pilots on reserve. I rarely hear of anyone flying more than 20 hours a month on reserve. Id say most common is 5-10 hours. Ive even heard of some going 2 months without a call and talked to one guy that had to do landing currency in the sim. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are several others out there in that situation. When I started 5 years ago we were in a frenzy because of all the growth, but they still staffed all of the flying without any trouble. I averaged 40-50 hours on reserve then. SAP is a factor, but that doesn’t explain why reserves are averaging 10 hours or less a month now.

I wish I only flew 20 hours a month of reserve. I've flown 40-50 hours every month on reserve since OE in sept. CA reserve is abusive in CLT. At 25 hours this month already with a few cancellations.

You’re the first I’ve heard flying that much. Makes sense since most of our flying is out of CLT though. I think we’re also fatter on FOs than captains at the moment.

Go to ORF! I’ve flown 3 hours last month and 9 the month before and 7 the month prior currently sitting at 0 this month.

A lot of the FO's are saying they don't fly a lot. But I get used and abused frequently

I used to be in ORF...i'd rather not go back. Wish they'd just close it.

as a reserve captain... don’t you want maximum time? Turbine pic is the only thing you can get, the more the better

sure...but 40-50 hours of block every month..used every single day either for hot reserve or the classic carolina turn. Never breaking guarantee. Efficiency at its finest.

I’ll second that! What a waste. I think we do like 6 departures a day now....

no not really the “1000 TPIC” hasn’t gotten many of us a call. I am sitting at over 3000 TPIC and just got a call from UPS. And I have no failed check rides no black marks no speeding tickets. It cracks me up when the young guys are like I need a 1000 TPIC! It doesn’t magically get you hired. There are so many guys out there with 7000 TT and 3000-5000 PIC that haven’t been called yet. I think this is changing fast but not there yet! But hey fly your heart out so I don’t have to!

Yeah but those guys that aren’t getting calls usually aren’t volunteering for anything, networking or even trying. Most guys I talk to here don’t even update their apps if they even have them out there.

11 a day. Which is actually more than TYS does. Also ORF was opened at the request of mainline, as a MX location for all the DCA and PHL aircraft. So ORF is here for the foreseeable future. Better chance of DAY or TYS closing.

Yes, to CLT, don’t forget about the 3 to DCA and the 4-5 to PHL and 2 to LGA......

i see what you mean. But sitting reserve for a year and adding 120tt/120pic would not help either 😊

still got to land it though.....I’ve spent so far $2500 on the prep and sim prep and resume look through....that’s doesn’t include the suit for delta having to be naval blue. Or hotels for both. And travel. Shaking my head...
