I don’t really mind sitting on reserve time, that will give me more time to move and plan for a house. I think i am more inclined towards CLT now considering the cost of getting a home and overall looks like a nice place, compared to PHL which doesn’t intrigue me and DCA where prices are too high!

Variety of ways to measure seniority. Most junior R1 FO is a narrow definition, that I think is inadequate to decide which city to move to for (I presume) 5-7 years.
Over the long haul, assuming no major changes, a single given date of hire will go farther in DC than in CLT

FWIW DCA is becoming like the SFO of the east coast. One bedroom apartments start around $1600 a month. With amazon coming, If you’re a homeowner you’ll strike it big. If you’re trying to invest it’s gonna be a step hill to climb to find something affordable. At least around me, your run of the mill 2200 sq ft average home start in the 600s. I’d say average price is in the 700-800s. Average two bed room apartment is $2200ish.
This is speaking of fairfax county. If you go south toward Fredericksburg it gets more decently priced but then your fighting traffic on 95 both ways. I know a lot of people are moving to harpers ferry WV area and just driving in.

I'm retired USAirways/AA, have lived in CLT for 29 years now. Housing here is very reasonable. My 1990 2650 sq ft house sitting on .82 acre lot 20 minute drive to the airport would probably sell for a little under $300K. Starter homes in the 1200-1300 sq ft range are around $200K. Townhomes $150K. Property tax on a 280K home is around $2600 (new rates just announced). We do have a state income tax that's somewhere around 5%, and personal property tax on cars, boats, and airplanes. A $20K value car will run $200-$300/yr in tax.
I've liked living here, have been in this same house for 29 yrs and hope to be here another 29 years or until they haul me off to the retirement home, whichever comes first
I grew up in JAX and still have family there and lived in Florida until out of college and in the USAF. CLT occasionally sees snow/ice events but they're pretty rare, otherwise the weather is fairly benign and not all that different from DCA. Beaches are 3-4 hour drive, Mountains 2-3 hr drive.
