So what are everyone’s thoughts on this? I just accepted an offer from PSA a few weeks ago and was super excited because I just moved back to Cincinnati after being gone for 12 years and was excited about the thought of not having to commute anymore. Do you think Dayton is going to be super hard to get out of training because everyone is going to try to jump ship there?

Reassignment bid closed 30 minutes ago. Will know a lot more next week.

DAY captain is going to get VERY senior. Not sure about DAY FO. I suspect holding reserve there won’t be too hard.

Cool, yeah I figured it would be pretty senior for Captain, keeping my fingers crossed that its not terrible for FO. Commuting for a while wouldn’t be the end of the world as nothing could be worse than my present commute, but I worry a little that there are suddenly going to be a lot of commuters out of CVG once it closes which could make getting out of there more difficult.

It’s probably going to be a year before things approach a steady state

March is the first month without a cvg base. The degree to which CVG line and reserve flying restribution matches pilot redistribution will drive another round of moves in a bid then that will probably be effective june 1 or so and probably a smaller echo bid thereafter.

I would be astounded if you can get Dayton earlier than about a year and a half, and by then you'll be getting ready to upgrade. At that point holding Dayton at all as a captain will be crazy difficult, and even if you can pull it off you'll be on reserve for the foreseeable future.

Your best bet is to move somewhere else.

Those two possibilities are mutually exclusive for FO's.

It can't be a base that no one can hold until just before they are forced to upgrade. (Nobody goes there anymore! It's too crowded)

Dayton had roughly 25 reserve lines last month. I have a really hard time believing 25 FO's are going to be fighting over DAY SCR when they could have R1 elsewhere.

Another thought. Endeavor just opened a CVG base. This is the time to go, before you accrue seniority.

I applied there but they said thanks but no thanks before I could even get an interview; even with prior military experience, multiple degrees, CFI experience, scheduled part 135 turbine time, and a recommendation from a current captain. No idea why but such is life. I guess I’ll just move if I need to, I’ll see how it shakes out.

Endeavor's loss, PSA's gain. Best wishes for your time at PSA.

Thanks! PSA was my first choice anyways I have quite a few friends there, upgrade time is shorter, and I like the bases better even with the loss of CVG. Excited to start in the spring.
