Sorry Cosgr, I quoted the wrong guy. I meant to quote BuckSilver. You're right.
Withholdings and tax rates are two different things. Yes, a large bonus will be WITHHELD at a higher rate than a normal paycheck but that doesn't mean that it'll ultimately be TAXED at a higher rate.

ALPA has literally nothing to do with it. LITERALLY. It's the people you elected and they will be the same people if it's Teamsters or PSAPA. The only thing ALPA does is provide resources to help fund flight pay loss and give resources you wouldn't have if you were on your own.
We are essentially a subsidiary of Alpa. They should not be having each group working on their own agenda. We should be 100% under the direction of National. Our MEC does not have the experience nor the ability to negotiate with upper management. It isn't an insult, they are pilots. Not lawyers or businessmen. You wouldn't want a lawyer flying your airplane. We certainly don't want pilots writing contracts.
Negotiating higher pay for first year pilots is utterly wrong when they forced 12'year caps on us. Alpa national needs to step in and say no more. Management gets nothing till our critical pay is solved.
We are losing $30,000 per year yet our union is negotiating higher pay for f/o's? Time to start representing the dues paying pilots on property.

Either way, what will likely be offered will probably be too little too late. This company is traditionally reactionary and not proactive about fixing problems. The time to do something about it was realistically last fall. And they should have NEVER stopped hiring for those few months. Sent the wrong signal to potential applicants. Even if we do raise pay and offer bonuses, we are no longer the only regional offering all that AND a quick upgrade. We are one of a few, and still won't likely offer anywhere near industry leading pay. Just my .02 but I think barring some unforeseen substantial raise or even some sort of drastically increased flow, the company won't be able to staff like they want to.
