PSA Reserve in Base vs. Endeavor Line Commute
#32
P1 normally starts at 5 am P2 at 10 am and P3 varies but typically around 7 pm. So add 1:45 (DTW or MSP) or 2:00 (JFK or LGA) to those times for reserve commuting.

1) Fly with PSA out of CLT which is a 1.5 hour drive. I understand CLT might be a few months after training according to the PSA threads. Unfortunately, it appears I'd be on reserve for over a year out of CLT.
Your commute will burn a 1/2 day on either end, probably more and sometimes you won't get home at all.
Also, the DTW flying is going to GoJet, in exchange for the LGA flying where Endeavor will be moving most of the DTW stuff...so be sure to figure that into your planning as well.

This was a big negative factor for me, when I made my decision. I didnt like the fact that you could get locked into equipment and that may hamper your movement through bases. Say what you will, but at least with PSA you can move bases as your seniority allows, regardless of equipment.

How often is your first day P1? Is it common that scheduling will help you out and give you P2 on your first day of reserve days. Also same for the last day. Are you stuck P3 a lot. Just curious how many times you are stuck commuting the day before or day after a group of reserve days.

The 900 and 200 have identical bases.

Not sure what you mean here? All 9E bases have both aircraft. The only seat lock I am aware of is if you go from 900 FO to 200 CA, then you incur a 1-yr seat lock.

All - looking for some insight from you veterans. I've gotten some great input via PM from some very helpful folks here on APC, but I wanted to pose this particular scenario to get multiple viewpoints so that I can make the most informed decision.
The two scenarios I am comparing:
1) Fly with PSA out of CLT which is a 1.5 hour drive. I understand CLT might be a few months after training according to the PSA threads. Unfortunately, it appears I'd be on reserve for over a year out of CLT.
2) Fly with Endeavor. Sounds like I could get Detroit right after training and it would be a 1 leg 2 hour commute from me on Delta metal. 3-4 flights available per day out of an airport 10 minutes from me.
Pay is not an issue, but my ultimate goal is to get to the majors. QOL is huge for me (family guy with young kids) and max days at home is the target. I already have a military pension and about 1700TT/820TPIC (about 1900TT/1000TPIC with military conversion factor).

So i was asking this same question earlier this year. I live maybe 10 minutes closer to CLT then you do... but all that to say is i get to the airport through security even in rush hour and have 5-15minutes to spare at least.
So the biggest reason I didn't go to endeavor was the commute. I have been on the line for 2 months before I'm based (already awarded) in CLT. You will get either DAY, CVG or even TYS (2 guys the class ahead of min got it) while in training. I'll spend one month in DAY then going to TYS then CLT. If your willing to sit reserve for about a year then defiantly go to PSA/CLT. I either have to drive to CLT and hope to get a one leg or i take a two leg out of a closer airport near my home. If QOL is more important then i would say PSA. Also you can easily hold line one much sooner in DAY or CVG (like 6months or more earlier then you would in CLT) and then SAP it down and drop as many trips from the DAY award and pick up trips in CLT.
Also we have to remember that they stopped the mass FO hiring almost a year ago and its never picked back up to the same rate.....soooo guys who are just know holding round 1 in CLT may have been here a year but it was only 1/2 a year of FO hiring. we need pilots bad and they can't get enough ppl in the door...so when they do make things more attractive here people will come and your number will increase quickly.
All that to say i went with PSA because driving to your base...even if its reserve is a billion times better then commuting. driving to base is the key to best QOL for a regional. in my humble opinion.
