PSA does have long call reserve. Before I left TSA, they had a 12-hour long call window. But, as is the case at XJT, they convert every LC pilot to SC as soon as legally possible.
In addition to the former military pilot, at PSA, we also get some NFOs, navigators, FEs, loadmasters and RW pilots. Most, although not all, make it through. |
Low time Military
I just graduated UPT last year and currently guard bummin. I've heard of some airlines givin dudes a military multiplier. One rumor that stands out to me is that some of these regional outfits are multiplying military guy's flight time by a factor of 2 to get them the required 750 hours. Does anyone know if this is true? Sounds like a stretch...

Not true.
There is a common application of .2 (certainly not 2) or a .3 multiplier, per sortie (not hour.) If heavies, it usually makes no difference by the time you have the experience they're looking for. Fighter guys can benefit. Also, and most importantly, that doesn't apply to the 750 hours for the restricted ATP. That's for the FAA application towards your ticket; the air carriers make their own rules beyond that. (Think ME PIC time, etc. That's where the .2 or .3 can come in to play. Which rate is, again, up to the company.) |

If you're like me and working a job right now where you are tied to a work phone, get hundreds of emails a day about I'm not sure what and can't ever totally shut the brain off from work in case there's an emergency, then it really puts flying into perspective about the skills/training we were given to put toward doing a job that I believe in the LONG RUN will allow for better quality of life.
