I understand that typical trips are 4-2 or 4-3?? Can someone please tell me if you can generally build something more along the lines of a 6-4, or 7-5. I just figured this schedule would be a little easier on someone who would have to commute for a little awhile. Thanks

Idk why you'd want anything longer than 5 day long trips. 7 is illegal, 6 would be brutal.

simply to allow me more than 2 or 3 days at home. Im used to being on the road for 14 days in a row with 7 days off.

It really depends on how senior you are. Also if you encounter reserve initially there won't be a whole lot of flexibility and you'll have minimum days off. If the airline you choose tends to have higher credit trips you'll most likely see half the month off or more once you hold a line. The more senior you become, the more you can cherry pick your schedule. There are a lot of X factors with your question, but generally you can accomplish what you asked in your original question with a little bit of seniority. I bid about 20% in base and just got off a three week vacation which all I had to do was request a week of vacation, bid around it, and drop a two day trip. So it's all relative.

Also what prex said, you'll definitely get accustomed to only wanting to do 4 day trips once you start doing them. Most regionals seem to build a majority of their trips at 3-4 days. Contractually at Republic they aren't allowed to build more than 5 day trips. So if you want to do 6 days in a row you have to try and stack trips back to back and at that point you're also responsible for paying for a hotel the night you are in base. Personally I like to try and bid 4 4-day trips that are commutable.

There's nothing illegal about them. It's called "layovers greater than 24 hours."

We have a saying around here, if you didn't have 7 days off between activities, then what did you bother commuting home for??

FDX aims at 7 on 7 off for domestic bid packs and 13 on / 15 off for international bid packs.

However coming from a civilian commuter pilot background, I understand that won't work for Skywest.

It depends on your FAR legalities combined with pilot contract. It varies.

I guess at the regional level layovers greater than like 16-18 hours are pretty hard to come by. They happen but not as much as the 12-14 hour layovers

Most regionals don't make 5 day trips. You can bid lines or PBS a 4 day with a 2 day right after. But that solidly depends on that particular airlines PBS and/or line construction.

7 day trips are illegal unless you have a 30 hr layover on the sixth day. Most overnights are 11-16 hours. At XJT we had a few 18 hours and I had one 43 hour layover on Christmas.
