Eagle Basing

Can anyone shed any light onAmerican Eagle. Their policy of awarding a base before training seems like it could be enough to make up for the really long upgrade time. Can anyone shed some light n QOL at Eagle specifically in Boston? How long are guys thinking the upgrade may be now that things are starting to move again? Any info would be nice. Thanks

BOS is a jr base, and we only fly the ERJ out here. QOL in BOS is pretty good if you live within about 2hrs. Reserve in BOS usually runs about 6-9 months until you can hold some sort of line, so its not too bad. The lines have varitety, some are day trips, 2days, 3days, or 4days. Its a smaller base and the crews are easy-going. The flying is fun and challenging running in and out of BOS/LGA/JFK/EWR/DCA all day when the weather is moving through. Upgrades are long, but i am guessing it will drop to about 4-5 years. They are really pushing to hire lots of FOs, so now is a good time to get in. Good luck!

Is BOS a commonly offered base? It seems that although you get to choose domicile now, it would be only from what they are offering. Just wondering how common it is there. Seeing as it is junior, I guess maybe there would be a good shot at it. Thanks.

Ridgewoodpilot 02-28-2007 04:16 PM

Sorry to cut in and step on your question but while we are on the subject what the chances of getting based out of JFK or LGA?

FL410 02-28-2007 04:49 PM

What is the deal with them? Are they letting you choose the base and equiptment? I am really hoping to get the Saab out of LAX. My interview is coming up in a few weeks.

Flyby1206 02-28-2007 04:56 PM

Yes. They are allowing newhires to pick your base. I dont know if they allow you to pick your equip, but BOS/LGA are only ERJ, LAX would only be able to hold Saab. If you want ORD you could get either the CRJ or ERJ. DFW has the CRJ, ERJ, and Saab. SO:

If you want BOS, yes you can go to the interview and be guaranteed a BOS ERJ spot. We do have a LGA ERJ base, and you could request that as well in your interview. LAX has ERJ and Saab, but the ERJ is about 1.5yrs to hold the bottom slot, so it wouldnt be offered to a newhire. Only the LAX Saab would be available. We are so short of staffing for all equip and bases, so wherever you want to go there will be a need for you there.

I can't really see anybody saying, "Well, I'm a six-year FO but it's okay because I knew where I was going to be based before I started training."

402DRVR 02-28-2007 05:34 PM

Yeah six year FO might not say that but then there are some FOs who been shafted by two airlines and figure if the shaft is going to continue they might as well have decent QOL on the off days. I've had too much Kool-Aid thanks.

Upgrades are long at Eagle, but there is a reason people have chosen to stay here for 6-8yrs before upgrading. We also have about 1000 CAs who have 12yrs+ seniority. If it was really that bad of a place to be then nobody would stick around. Lots of people come here because they have been through many other airlines, careers, or just b.s and want some stability while living where they are based.

So flyby, if you live on the Cape you see it as being an attainable base to hold and all that. Like you said above i know upgrades are long and i still have 2 years until i graduate (not an aviation degree) but it seems like a great company and like it will fit with my life the best.

ERJ135 03-01-2007 08:28 PM

Hey,

Heres the deal. Just got back from DFW today. Got the job, got BOS. They just asked us where we wanted to be and that was it. No problems.

Definitely, just show up for the interview and tell them you want BOS. You will get it. We have a lot of guys based in BOS who drive in from the Cape area.

thats actually a big thing for a lot of people. lots of lifers now, i have no idea why, but whatever thats less competition for the rest of us and i think this whole base choosing thing is awesome for them

cheyennedrvr 03-04-2007 02:52 PM

What are the chances of DFW, are all bases open right now?

Anybody have any insight as to the commuting conditions at DFW or LAX?

ghilis101 03-04-2007 03:08 PM

where are you commuting from.

CTPILOT 03-04-2007 05:47 PM

I think that a lot of people that stay at eagle because they decided that they put too much time after putting 5 years into Eagle and therefore it is shorter to wait it out at the top of the seniority list rather than start over at another airline. "just a little longer, just a little longer, just a little longer, too late to turn back....."

yes it is. it is an ATR only base. it has long been rumoured to be an ERJ base (along with RDU).

Flyby1206 03-05-2007 08:42 AM

Each base and equip are as follows:

BOS- ERJ
LGA- ERJ
ORD- CRJ, ERJ
DFW- CRJ, ERJ, SF3
LAX- ERJ, SF3
MIA- ATR
SJU- ATR

Any base and equip is available except LAX ERJ.

I would rather commute to LAX as opposed to DFW. There are tons of carriers that have hubs in LAX and offer flights there. If you commute to DFW you are usually stuck with just AA flights, and lately the loads have been heavy. But, this does largely depend on where you will be commuting from. Check travel.airwise.com/schedules to see who flies where.

Hey flyby are there alot of out and back options out of BOS, or short trips such as 1 or 2 nights away from home?
thanks

We have a good mix of lines in BOS. The day trip lines go relatively senior usually, I held one once that wasnt too bad with around 2yrs seniority. We do have a lot of 2day trip lines, and those go junior. The 3day trips go most senior, and the 4day trips are spread all over. The longest trips that we have are 4days, meaning you will spend 3 nights ina hotel.

402DRVR 03-06-2007 05:09 AM

Do any Eagle guys have any thought on how long the hiring into specific bases will last? Also how early should one apply to the job. I get out of the military in about six months and will be available to start somwhere in November. How early should I look to send in a resume?
