Default Eagle Basing

Can anyone shed any light onAmerican Eagle. Their policy of awarding a base before training seems like it could be enough to make up for the really long upgrade time. Can anyone shed some light n QOL at Eagle specifically in Boston? How long are guys thinking the upgrade may be now that things are starting to move again? Any info would be nice. Thanks

BOS is a jr base, and we only fly the ERJ out here. QOL in BOS is pretty good if you live within about 2hrs. Reserve in BOS usually runs about 6-9 months until you can hold some sort of line, so its not too bad. The lines have varitety, some are day trips, 2days, 3days, or 4days. Its a smaller base and the crews are easy-going. The flying is fun and challenging running in and out of BOS/LGA/JFK/EWR/DCA all day when the weather is moving through. Upgrades are long, but i am guessing it will drop to about 4-5 years. They are really pushing to hire lots of FOs, so now is a good time to get in. Good luck!

Is BOS a commonly offered base? It seems that although you get to choose domicile now, it would be only from what they are offering. Just wondering how common it is there. Seeing as it is junior, I guess maybe there would be a good shot at it. Thanks.

What is the deal with them? Are they letting you choose the base and equiptment? I am really hoping to get the Saab out of LAX. My interview is coming up in a few weeks.

Yes. They are allowing newhires to pick your base. I dont know if they allow you to pick your equip, but BOS/LGA are only ERJ, LAX would only be able to hold Saab. If you want ORD you could get either the CRJ or ERJ. DFW has the CRJ, ERJ, and Saab. SO:

If you want BOS, yes you can go to the interview and be guaranteed a BOS ERJ spot. We do have a LGA ERJ base, and you could request that as well in your interview. LAX has ERJ and Saab, but the ERJ is about 1.5yrs to hold the bottom slot, so it wouldnt be offered to a newhire. Only the LAX Saab would be available. We are so short of staffing for all equip and bases, so wherever you want to go there will be a need for you there.

I can't really see anybody saying, "Well, I'm a six-year FO but it's okay because I knew where I was going to be based before I started training."

Yeah six year FO might not say that but then there are some FOs who been shafted by two airlines and figure if the shaft is going to continue they might as well have decent QOL on the off days. I've had too much Kool-Aid thanks.

Upgrades are long at Eagle, but there is a reason people have chosen to stay here for 6-8yrs before upgrading. We also have about 1000 CAs who have 12yrs+ seniority. If it was really that bad of a place to be then nobody would stick around. Lots of people come here because they have been through many other airlines, careers, or just b.s and want some stability while living where they are based.

So flyby, if you live on the Cape you see it as being an attainable base to hold and all that. Like you said above i know upgrades are long and i still have 2 years until i graduate (not an aviation degree) but it seems like a great company and like it will fit with my life the best.
