Regional Captains

Any regionals or upstarts hiring direct entry captains? Thanks in advance.

surfnfly 03-07-2007 04:01 PM

go fly for SkyBus than we can all kick your a$$

phantomflier 03-07-2007 04:10 PM

Not the reply I expected.

 What the heck...ask an honest question...get a 10 year's old version of an attempt at a response. Give me a call when you've sat 6 years as a F/O flying Learjets all over the world because the Loser captains are too comfy making 60k a year being on call 24/7/365. Then tell me you're not ready to sit in the left seat flying 45 minute legs. Absolutely no offense to any regional crews here...just this douche bag with a lack of class to keep this forum professional.

No............................................. Sitting in the right seat of a LEAR for 6 years in no way makes you qualified to be a captain for a 121 airline, and my last leg from Toronto to IAH was just slightly over 45 mins:mad:

Sorry to say it but you're in NO WAY qualified for a major. If you want out I see your next job being the right seat at a regional. If you know someone you MIGHT get lucky and get on with CAL or DAL as an FO but with your time, ABSOLUTLY NO MAJOR will hire you as a CA. Not VA or SkyBus! In order to get hired as a CA for VA or SkyBus you need to have extensive experience as a 121 CA and preferable be a 121 check airmen. If you want to see for yourself then visit their website.

60K a year for A320 captains? - If you stoop to that level you deserve to have your a$$ kicked

The dude 03-07-2007 04:35 PM

45 minute legs? Wouldn't that be nice. Maybe they meant the North American Region when they came up with the term "regional".

HAHAHAHAHA!! That's good!!! Ya why work your way up the ranks like the rest of us?:D

aero550 03-07-2007 04:55 PM

I'd think the only way you could walk in as a captain, even at a start-up, would be if you had turbine captain experience, and more likely 121 at that. Sitting as a lear FO for 6 years isn't going to do it. In fact, it's probably going to work against you - hiring in as a captain, that is.

You can't expect to skip a rung on the ladder just because you chose to sit where you're at for as long as you did.

Maybe if you were a check airman. I think most of these startups look for that first.

Not trying to pass anyone, life just isn't that simple, turning 40, spent 10 years on active duty in the navy, MBA in finance.....anyone...anyone!!! Wondering whether to continue to put my wife of 16 years and kids through this little chase to a captain seat so I can eventually qualify for a 121 F/O seat and make 19,000 a year. OBTW, standing job offer at Pinnacle and numerous Captain offers I had to decline due family. So get off my back, not everyone's in their twenties still getting an allowance from mom and dad. Give me a call when you get 63 missions over Iraq and Bosnia.:) Once again, absolutely no offense to regional folks out there. I've just heard of a few companies out there that are offering Captain seats (121) out of training if you do well. That was the original question.

POPA 03-07-2007 05:18 PM

Mesa's looking for direct-entry Dash8 drivers. :p

You answered the question yourself. You have an MBA in finance, go be a financial planner or work for a fortune 500 and buy your own plane. Or just be their corporate pilot on the side and make all the money you want for your family and be home every night.

Thanks for your service, man, but you can't expect people on a forum to know your life story after asking one vague question.

If you go into an interview with this attitude of entitlement, you're not going to get anywhere. Don't know what else to tell you, other than you appear to be changing your career plans late in life and expect the industry to conform to your wishes. Good luck with that.

Why would you not try UPS, FDX, or the majors, what with the military experience and all?

JetJock16 03-07-2007 05:33 PM

Agree, thank you for your service! But with your military experience you can get hired my SWA, UPS, FedEx or any other major you want. Choose correctly and you'll have a good lucrative career.

Pinnacle may be in need of captains pretty soon. Apparently they can't upgrade enough. Mesa is currently hiring captains. That is all I know for sure. I don't blame you for wanting more with your experience level.

So what is your problem? My guess is your are upset you made the wrong choice 6 years ago and went to a lear outfit instead of a regional.

FWIW, I flew with a 6-year CA last month who's W2 showed $92,000 last year. Sooo...maybe taking that $19,000/job would've been the smart choice. Just a thought. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Big Sky hires direct entry captains and i think colgan is as well...ifyou don't mind flying at Beech 1900

DMEarc 03-08-2007 01:24 PM

I've never seen such a terrible topic. This fellow stopped in here took the time to type and ask an extremely relevant question and surfnfly jumps on him for no apparent reason.

SurfNFly- grow up, be professional..you are a douche.

Sorry for the people here sir, hopefully someone can give you some good information.

By the way, thank you for your service to this country.

Mesa was hiring into the left seat, and as mentioned Skybus along with VA will too (320 type and experience required). In the case of Mesa, I'd ask myself why the the FO's weren't sticking around for upgrade - that should tell you alot.

Mesa has very restrictive upgrade requirements (jet FO cannot upgrade to prop CA, if I'm not mistaken)...and many FOs probably don't have the required flight time to upgrade.

You are absolutely right sir. I don't understand why those ppl that get the jet class don't just get up and walk out. They know up front it is over 3 years to upgrade with a terrible life everyday. The ONLY way I think it is worth dealing with might be for those Street CA's on the props.

And just to answer the question you can get a CA job on either of the props at Mesa, but they are getting very close to selling all the 1900's as I hear it. In fact Mesa sent out an Email this week saying they will no longer be hiring ANY ppl for Air Midwest and that all future applicants will have to be found by the Air Midwest mgmt team in ICT.

Get over yourselves

All pilots whine either about getting screwed one way or the other. The end result is that they wish the pilot botherhood would come together as one. Well, where's the brotherhood now?
121 vs 135 what's the differience? NONE!
FMS, Glass, 5-tube EFIS, 4-tube EFIS vs steam gauge. In the end whats the difference? NONE!

Sure maybe phantom didn't clarify himself in the beginning what his quals were. But you all were quick to judge him, and tell him to pound sand.
If he meets the hiring company's stated qualifications for street captain, and they feel he's competent. Then why shouldn't we?
Ziggy

6 years as an FO and you are now just looking to move on? If the Captains are only making 60K what does FO pay?

Why not try the fractionals or search for a good corporate job. Are you typed in the Lear? If so what about getting hired into a PIC position with another Lear operator.

EDIT: Just looked through your previous post and seems you've got the Fractional stuff covered. It looks like you've applied at World and Delta. While the initial pay sucks at the regional level some 121 time on the resume could only help down the road. You could probalby hold EMB captain in CA with SkyWest in under a year and RJ Captain in MKE or ORD within two.

Unless you have some uber good connections you definately need some Turbine PIC time.
