Well played!!!!!
I like how you changed that up from "I sent them my resume to show how qualified/deserving I was" to "I was helping them out" Nice.......nice........ You're off base. Interpreting Hackers comments as you have is unfortunate. Looking out for and doing what is actually little to no skin off his back to help another brother pilot is just what is expected in our world. If that's foreign to you please don't project your own selfishness onto the rest of us. I've had both former mil AND civilian pilots practically give me the shirt off their back helping me further my aviation career. Any further efforts to disparage what is simply helping out a fellow pilot is pure douchbaggery. |

Keep plugging away man.
Hopefully the rumors are true of a CBA as well as flying contract extended. And hopefully the rumors concerning how to handle the "round 2 guys" AREN'T TRUE. It's bad enough A LOT of good guys/girls got the shaft the first time around. Hopefully the creator of that problem goes away this year, as rumored, AGAIN. |

You took his blanket statement, and covered it with your own.
He's talking about the mid 20's RJ FO that doesn't even have 3000TT. And not any TPIC. Except for Timmy Martins, are any of those retired mil guys with IE/EP/NATOPS/Standeval/safety/chief/multiple platforms flown experience types running around mid 20's RJ FO's with barely any flying experience? Let alone life experience? Didn't think so..... It's happening more and more than the last 2 hiring waves/eras I got to be a part of and observe. I've seen some of the names of the "4 month CA's" at DAL. Please forgive my "ignorance" of their application, but I KNOW SOME OF THEM. I'm not sure job fair attendance and all that (fake) volunteer stuff they put on their resume is going to make them a good MD captain...... Also, AboveMins has got to deal with the consequences/fallout of a system right now that, shall we say has been completely FUBAR'd by a certain HR rep over a bruised ego. And that's putting it very very nicely......... Nice to see that someone "gets it". Thanks for trying to explain it to those who don't! |

Likewise. Not worried about round 2, getting ready to pull the trigger on Plan B, and getting out of aviation all together. Can't stomach putting my family through this for much longer. My planned drop dead date has been 1/1/2018 since SkyWest bought us. Turning in that resignation is going to be the best Christmas present I could give my wife and three kids. :)

Well, from what I've been told, us regional pilots aren't skilled enough to fly mainline passengers around in mainline jets. So, they let us fly mainline passengers around in regional jets instead. Gotta keep payin' those dues!
This industry is a joke. What's a joke is when Eagle was boasting about wanting to fly AA Super 80s for $80/hr. |

Too much complaining in this thread. Just concentrate on being competitive to be selected by a major/LCC one day. Regionals will never go away, and the working conditions at them will only improve marginally. The goal is to stand out by proving that you are a leader and a good aviator. You can do that by rising through the ranks at a regional carrier/crappy LCC like Spirit/part 135 charter or more preferably if you're still young, go military. In any case, it is not worth the time lamenting the shoddy conditions at regional airlines. Just focus on improving yourself so that you can move on.

Has anyone done a cost-benefit analysis of a gender reassignment? It seems like a small price to pay if it got you out of a regional fast enough.

In my experience, unless you've actually laid eyes on the resume/application of those "little experience" FOs, then your statement isn't at all accurate.
There are lots of people who have experience, qualifications, etc, that don't get discussed in idle cockpit conversation, and which you'd never know about unless you specifically looked into it. I am one of those regional FOs who got hired at a major "in front of" a number of Captains who thought I was less experienced simply because I'd been hired at a regional after them. More than one contacted me, asking what my "secret" was that helped me get hired so quickly and, in one guy's words, "out of seniority". When I sent them my resume, they seemed surprised to learn I was a retired military pilot with a ton of things on my resume that they had no idea about, and had been flying professionally since they were in elementary school. My advice is, instead of raging at the machine -- because the only people that control this process are the folks at the majors who are inviting people for interviews and handing out CJOs -- is ask those "little experience" FOs for a copy of their application and their advice on what they did to get the call. |
It's sad to say but most pilots are just plain stupid. They agree with the system that exists today. Walk away from the regionals and watch how quickly they disappear. For the naysayers there is life beyond a regional but they don't want to see that.
