Xtreme - where are you based, where do you fly? How many RON's? Any chance tey will start to fly something besides the 1900?

I am based in MCI as I am a junior CA. Have been based MCI as CA for about a year. Spent several bids in PIT as well and I like MCI MUCH better. I live very close to MCI so it works out good for me. I could actually hold some junior lines but choose not to for QOL.

As a RSV pilot in MCI you will be out probably several nights a week. and most likely will work ALL 6 days. RSV's are 6 on / 3 off.

We will NOT be flying anything but the 1900's I am sure of this.

Xtreme - How many pilots do you have? How many in KC? I always loved the thought of flying a 1900 - seem like cool machines. Where are your trips to? Where do you stay overnight (what towns)? Thanks a ton for all the info!What would be the minimums for a F/O to be hired into MCI?

I am not really sure how many pilots we have but I would guess Air Midwest only has about 130 or so. Since we have a global seniority with Mesa it is hard to tell.
MCI has 10 Captains right now and I think 3 F.O.'s because they always quit. MCI is the most junior CA domicile right now though. The junior F.O. bases change every 30 days but MCI is always available since it is mostly just RSV.

The trips could be any where we bases from California to South Carolina to New York so the overnights for an MCI pilot could be anywhere.

Oh and last but not least, mins for an MCI first officer....well I guess that would be a commercial multiengine rating, they claim 500/100 but I know they will do much lower....pretty sad, but that is what we are left once the more qualified pilots take the better jobs....which are most any other company besides Mesa.

XtremeF150 - I really appreciate all your info. How long is the upgrade to CA at MCI? Also, something I have always wondered: You start as an FO with say 500 and 50ME, Commercial and multi. If I am correct, don't you have to have 1,500 hrs to upgrade? And, how much of that has to be PIC? Does SIC count toward your ATP minimums?

Right now you can upgrade whenever you want at Air Midwest. Unfortunately that only brings in 29.88 an hour for first year CA's and 31.28 for second year so those 2 years it takes to get 1000+ Turbine PIC are still tough but you can have the upgrade whenever you want it.

As far as the hour requirement you must have 1500 TT no PIC requirement for the 1900 because we don't operate outside the U.S. There is also the regular ATP req.'s of night and X-C to meet but if you get hired at 500/50 then you will easily meet these by upgrade.

My first full year as FO I made just over $30,000 including per diem, but that included a 90-100 hour line each month and a few months of TDY (a temporary domicile assignment where you get a hotel and 24 hour per diem). As captain, I made about $42K last year including everything (some cancel and junior-assigment pay, instructor premiums, and per diem, but no open time).

The maintenance is okay. The planes are safe, but not pretty. Lots of little stuff breaks, but the major systems are surprisingly reliable. We do have lots of MELs (deferred maintenance items). For example, today I flew 3 different aircraft. One had inop flaps (not a big deal in the Beech, just slightly higher takeoff and landing speeds). Another plane had a backlight inop on one of the instruments and the VCM (air conditioner) was out of freon, and the other didn't have any MELs. I spoke to another crew who had been grounded for a few hours by the FAA earlier today because of a 1 inch scratch on the spinner (FAA said it was a crack, but it wasn't). Our planes are showing their age and the MELs can be a pain, but I feel safe.

PM me for more info or post any other questions you may have. I'm certainly not trying to sugarcoat Air Midwest, but it all depends on your priorities. If you have ATP mins and want some quick turbine PIC, this is the place. If you have 250 hours and just need a job to build time to get hired somewhere else so you can fly an RJ, this is the place. If you want time at home and you don't mind sitting in the right seat of an RJ for a few years, try Republic or Skywest if you meet the mins. They're definitely better companies and you'll have a better quality of life while you're building time and waiting to upgrade.

They didn't take away the PM feature, you just don't have enough posts to send or recieve them, thats all it is.
