I check those dam pins 4 times before every leg. I've heard stories of probation fo's getting canned for forgetting them, so I guess I'm a little OCD about it. It is kind of important too...

Like I said, there was no emergency, no return to the airport, no endanger to pax. The plane was sitting on the ramp, contract mx was needed to correct the error, and they then reported it to the company. It was down hill from there. No gear pins involved, no damage to aircraft.

Alright, so what was it?

Yeah seriously, spill the beans. If you didn't go anywhere I can't imagine how one would &%#@ up the plane bad enough to call mx.

What was it, where were you and what plane?

Whats the difference between a Flight Attendant and a washing machine. Two points to anyone who can answer this.

A washing machine doesn't follow you around for a week after you put a ......(some one else can finish it)

At Eagle, when you finish probation they pretty much can't fire you without major red tape. So probation is where they weed you out if they think you'll become a liability. If you got into hot water for some mistake, I think they ask captains if you are a good person/pilot and check your probation reports.

One guy in my class got the boot during the probation checkride, but had it been just the bad sim ride then I think he would have been fine. He was pulling all kinds of minor things and it caught up with him.

I don't know what happened in your scenario, but I'm sorry it happened. I'm sure it'll all work out and you'll laugh about it in the future.

Although, that would, be very serious. Once your off probation, you are allowed to make mistakes. You will keep your job. While on probation, you are not allowed to be human and make mistakes. You MUST be perfect for 12mths. At Eagle, anyway. How do other carriers compare?

Can you provide a specific example at Eagle of people being fired for these items? (ok i've read the entire thread now) I think you are worrying about something that is not there. If you pay attention and follow the advice of others you will have no points in training. If you listen to your IOE instructor and apply changes to the mistakes you make there again you will be fine. 99% of the CA's you fly with on probation will be cool and give you 5's on your probie report. The 1% will be known by the chief pilots as the 1% and they will disregard them. If you are sick, call in sick, you will not be fired. If you're habitually sick they will probably not retain you. If you miss a checklist, speak up, say oops want to do the descent checklist and run it. If you're late, fess up, be honest and say why. If they still wish to fire you for it, you did the best you could and go on from there.

No one is perfect in their probation. In general, you keep your mouth shut, show up on time, an do your job you will have no problem on probation.
