I think Compass is the only exception to this.
I 100% agree with you though, delaying interviews is a horrible strategy.

STARTING interviewing in November? Does your airline have a normal training footprint over Christmas? Or is it - like most - sort of screwed up by the holidays and the increased flying from Thanksgiving through the New Years? Perhaps it varies by regional more than I thought, but clearly, the ability to defer a CJO for up to six months seems pretty commonplace.

These ducks could have been in a row back in July, IMHO, assuming he could have gotten a CJO at all.

No no, let me rephrase. Most CJOs are indeed valid for 6 months, and delaying interviewing is stupidity.
But also, most will get you a class date a few weeks after a CJO, and most regionals will give you a CJO a day or two after the interview.
If you interview in November, I'd expect most regionals will get you in ATP-CTP in December.

Every regional I've talked to run classes first half of December.

Except you HAVEN'T planned ahead.

Planning ahead would have meant interviewing six months ahead of your time of availability and - if you found someone insane enough to hire someone with only 1800 TT, who is non-current, who destroys rental cars for a living and quits regional's for trivial reasons, who was actually desperate enough to offer you a CJO - you could have accepted the offer and deferred until the new year.

Planning ahead is NOT delaying interviewing until November when your actual availability is going to be 1 January. Even if you did find an HR department willing to take a $45 -50k gamble on you, they almost certainly won't have a class opening for you before March and likely even later.

I probably shouldn't ask, but have you even gotten a Class 1 physical yet? Do you actually HAVE an ATP, or are you planning on getting that too AFTER you're hired on? Which would generally mean even more unpaid lead time before you start getting paid training.

Lol. You caught me. Don’t have my medical, passport, ATP or any other req’d licensure/credential/yada yada. I’m just winging it through all of this hoping it all works out. Thanks for all your helpful advice. It’s been really helpful

Stupidity is only having one source of income through your life. Come November, money isn’t something I worry about anymore.

Thanks for the advice, to those that actually advised. Laterz

Airlines are desperate right now but you can’t expect to have your pick with the history you have.

He's a perfect candidate for Mesa. This is not a negative comment about Mesa. Mesa gave me a shot. After not flying for 20 years. I'm about to upgrade. They gave me a place to prove myself and I have. They will also boot your ass if you are a FU.

Passport takes about 6 weeks to get. You should have that done well before INTERVIEW.

Update: a couple of CJO’s in hand with class dates in Jan and Feb. My business is slowly being transferred over to the new owners through a few attorneys (always fun) and one of my kids has a birthday today.

A sincere thank you to everyone that offered solid, advice.

To all the others...thanks for nothing.

Congratulations! Now, go get your medical before you invest any more into it.

I thought your comment was obvious sarcasm. I guess some people’s sarcasm meter is MEL’d. lol!

Best wishes on your re-entry into the industry.
