UND US Airline Pilot Supply Forecast
(2016) predicts cumulative
pilot shortage of 14,000 by 2026

Boeing Pilot Outlook

(2017) projects worldwide growth in pilot
demand, with 117,000 pilots needed in North America by 2036

CAE Airline Pilot Demand Outlook

(2017) indicates 85,000 new
airline pilots needed, by 2027, including 62,000 new captains;
cites large number of retirements as significant challenge

FAA Aerospace Forecast

(2018) notes “regional airlines are
facing pilot shortages and tighter regulations regarding pilot
training. Their labor costs are increasing as they raise wages to
combat the pilot shortage” and “...network carrier consolidation
and new rules on pilot training have left regional carriers saddled with either excess capacity or a lack of pilots

Good to see they're still wasting money lobbying congress to chip away at the 1500 hour rule. Just remember that next time they say they can't afford to pay you more.

Waaaaaaaa, it will take 2 more years for me to fly a ̶s̶h̶i̶n̶y̶ ratty piece of sht jet, better give up on a 45 year career!
And if UND, less than 1 year with the 1000 R-ATP.

Regional Airlines poisoned the well when they were paying $19,000 a year and killing people.

Now they have to drink from it.

I wonder if the airport they showed losing service in Alaska is the one where it lost service because the runway was in such poor condition that planes couldn't land on it (and so now supplies are brought in overland).

Commuting across the country from their parents basement, because they could not afford to live like normal people definitely contributed to colgan killing people.
