50 Fun things to do in the sim during training

Any ideas anyone?

Yzerman 04-04-2007 08:42 PM

I can't name you 50, but...

flying under bridges (inverted is even better)
landing on water
all engines fail - will you live?
total hydraulic failure - will you live?
single pilot in a 2-pilot airplane
simulated mile high club
that's all I can think of right now

Turn the winds up to 120 kts and land like a helicopter right to the gate.

Do a high-speed pylon turn around the Washington monument, roll-out, pull both power levers to cut-off, the using your residual energy do a barrell roll, then dead-stick it onto RWY 19 at DCA (yes this can be done in a CRJ  )

I used to work for mesa and we used CAE sims for the145, in PHX or "gateway field" they could upload an aircraft carrier. Tried to land it on the carrier like 5 times never made it but it was a ton of fun...

Heres my list of 50 "fun" things to do in a sim. I have way too much time on my hands. I have done most of these in a sim, ok I am lying some of them i have just "thought" about doing. These are suggestions only.

1.set up a tailwind on an ILS of twice your approach speed and shoot it backwards

2. shoot an ILS, inverted, reverse sensing?!?!? (I have only done that in a PCADT, i dont know how full motion might react to that)

3. fly under the arch westbound
4. See how many times you can land and get the APU to fail.
5. put the O2 mask on and talk like Darth Vader
6. aileron rolls
7. Full Stalls at 300
8. go out and do a bunch of random turns for two hours and then go look at your flight path and try to interpret some words in an eastern language
9. Try to make your flight path look like perverted images or cuss words.
10. Sleep
11. Help out your sim partner by giving him some hints, and then get *****ed out by your wonderful instructor, and then make fun of his lifestyle and taunt him in the fact that hes retired and you're still flying
12. Practice Ditching
13. Play Circuit Breaker Bingo
14. Try to Fukc up your Sim partner as much as possible, examples include covering his eyes with the checklist, eating whities and letting em rip, throwing the QRH at him at DH, go crazy, lock up and refuse to do anything, and then bring on your A game when its time for payback.
15. Tune in ADF stations and listen to static
16. Insert funny waypoints into the FMS. BIGGO TITYS
17. Find new places to put all those damn mint wrappers.
18. Practice no flap, no gear, single engine landings, might happen
19. Try to close your eyes and fly with "The Force"
20. Stomp on the rudder pedals during your sim partners single engine procedures.
21. Sing annoying pop songs like Fergalicious and You and Dat Booty after you get inside the outer marker.
22. Wear a bomber jacket, some goggles, and a scarf.(People Wont Laugh)
23. Read a magazine
24. Play with your flashlight during the electrical emergency, i like to do that bit from the Conan O' Brian Show, IN THE YEAR 2000!
25. Put obscene pictures on the inside of the smoke goggles for the next guy.
26. Do cool accents during a V1 cut, in the style of "Sean Connery", Set MAX THRUST! GEAR UP PUSS*!
27. Do Passenger Announcements, your instructor will love that!
28. Tell your sim partner to put on the O2 mask, ask the instructor to put it on pause and exit the sim and go have a chew in the bathroom and read some Maxim.
29. Taxi like your practicing for a Southwest interview.
30. Flaps 45 Takeoffs are not that dangerous
31. Play paper rock scissors to see who gets to "ding the flight attendant"
32. Every two minutes, ask your instructor for radio checks and altimeter settings.
33. Put your flight number in as 6969! YEAH!!!!!
34. Bring a hula girl and put her on the instrument panel for good measure
35. Bring your iPod and gel your hair in the bathroom before your session, look yourself in the mirror, grin, wink and then say lets go! yeah! woo!
Its time for the "insertyournamehere"anator
36. When your sim partner looks like hes just beeing way overworked, lighten the tension by telling him you went on a gay cruise with Matt Damon.
37. Find out if those positive G limits in the limitations section of the POH really have that 50% safety margin
38. Tell that 777 across the ramp to move his big ass and make room for the champ!
39. Program in a 200 mile leg hold in the FMS and figure out your bug out fuel to land with 50 pounds per side.
40. When you make your "radio calls" for pushback use a cool call sign like Gateway
41. I always tell old war stories about past equipment and procedures and why they are way better than what your flying/doing now!
42. Use the whole session for unusual attitude practice!
43. Tell the instructor that you would have givin him a "U" for that explanation of that procedure!
44. Pretend your actually looking for traffic when your not doing anything else.
45. Everytime you brief an approach, see how many times you can say meow!
46. Right down your ATIS and Clearance in Ebonics and read it aloud!
47. Test that whole Mach Tuch Theory!
48. Fly over atlanta, pocono, indianapolis, daytona, richmond, bristol, watkins glen, taladega, or Charlotte and try to meet up and fly in formation with some fighter jets.
49. Tell your instructor to "give it to me"
50. Pretend your PTT button on the yoke is a machine gun. Sound effects earn extra points.
