Where can I go to do a background check on myself in order to see what the airlines are seeing? There maybe stuff in my past I just have forgotten about or don't know is there how can I accurately look this up?

AirInc. use to do this but does not any longer. I know that a company called Global HR Research has been researching how to corner this area in the industry. They have contacted multiple people in the aviation industry to get specifics of what each airline is seeing and pulling up. I was told that they will have a package available soon.

Email this person at [email protected]. She is in charge of the aviation division of the company. She will probably be able to let you know when they will have a everything set up. Last I heard, they were close.

You can contact the FBI and request their file on you. I believe you have to pay $25 I'm not sure. Google it.

Holy smokes what is it that you have to worry about? This country is not Iraq back when Saddam was running things. If you have something the FBI is interested in maybe you should go into retail sales instead of flying.

Years ago I bought a van and toured the country and I later found out the great state of Pennsylvania had been keeping tabs on the van I went through it with. How I knew this I can't recall. Anyway I was not up to any trouble and I was just doing the fancy loose foot free 22 year old thing mostly going from state park to rv park to parking lot to friends house to rv park etc. I have never checked my record but I doubt FBI would spend time figuring out what I was up to because it was gypsy, not criminal. I doubt I would have trouble explaining a desire to see our great nation should anyone even have the file.

If you have a suspicious past you probably aren't airline material especially since 911 has made certain ethnicities suspicious without a crime. If you have an arrest record, you aren't going to get a SIDA clearance anyway. Airlines have to get SIDA clearance for pilots to be able to go on secure areas of the airport.

Not true...someone may be arrested for anything, you are innocent until proven guilty in this country. A conviction is what will hurt.

I have no idea what makes or breaks a SIDA clearance, but I know it contains and an FBI check because I used to have a SIDA clearance. Unless you work for the FBI how do you know, eh?

Getting your 10 year background check before you apply is essential. It does not matter how innocent you are. I know a guy that got arrested for urinating in public at the Michigan State - Michigan game years ago. He took it to court and paid a fine with community service to have it esponged from his record. He did not disclose it on his application because it was not suppose to be on his record. Well, all be darn, someone made a mistake in Lansing and he got sent home in training. It took him a lawyer and 8 months to get another job.

Background checks are not a witch hunt. But you better know if you look like a witch or not before the interview. Especially, in an age that identity fraud is the highest. You would not apply for a mortage without pulling your credit report. Do not apply for a job without finding what is in your past...truth or not.

Someone forgot to give me my SIDA badge. All I have is this lousy crew ID that gets me yelled at by gate agents in IAD.

Crew ID carries an FBI check. Your point...? On the other hand I take the point that if you thought some minor crime you did was expunged years ago and it wasn't, you might better to know it lest you become toast somewhere down the line. I had a moving violation about three years ago and as it turned out the court lost it. No record whatsoever on the old MVR. By the same token, if something is there that isn't supposed to be, you would want to know. Cub stands corrected... peace out...

As a flight crew member, you won't need a SIDA anyways. Unless you are in the training department.
