Moving to a domicile

Anyone on here crazy enough to move to a city with no family or friends just to live in base? Fresh out of college with no debt and have class dates with Republic and Skywest quickly approaching (decision time). I was thinking Columbus for RAH and Dallas for Skywest.

Also can anyone point out some differences in things like contract, growth, and career progression? If you were young and single again which one would you move for? Thanks!

Young and single with no ties, move to where the flying is!

You’re in a golden position to take advantage of any opportunities to fly as much and get ahead.

I comepletey agree! Just trying to figure out where that is lol. Any details on things that you can’t find on a company website or from recruiting material would be awesome.

Be darn sure that wherever you move you’ll still be able to hold it as a captain, unless you want to move a second time.

That is exactly what I was going to say. Many regionals out there you can hold bases as an FO pretty quickly, but CA is not the same that’s for sure

Yeah. As others have stated, I had a class date at 9e and passed it up because I'm from MSP and would have probably never seen it as a CA. That base closed at my current shop anyway, damned if you do damned if you don't. Good luck with your decision :)

“Have pilot will travel.”
I. Your position go where you can get flying, cost of living, and maybe someplace cool to live. A time will come when the “R” word kicks in. Responsibilities. It will seem that you have fewer and fewer choices.

What do you mean "crazy enough"? Scared of moving away from mommy and daddy?

This might sound crazy to you, but people from all walks of life do this EVERY DAY.
Don't even know if that was a serious question. Of course people move to start a new job, it's called life. I graduated college (which was 1600 miles away from home), moved four states away to instruct for a year, and then moved half way across the country for a regional job.
If you're thinking this is "crazy" you haven't done much living.

Huh? What are you talking about? Did you quote the wrong post? My mommy and daddy have been dead for years. So I’m not sure about your point.

With all due respect, why do you make the presumption that the OP will have kids in the future? Kids are not for everyone, just like college isn't for everyone, especially right after high school.

Only those with a burning desire to do so should have kids! Not fair to the kids otherwise.

He may, he may not. I’m not sure why you even assumed I meant kids.
But you don’t know. I’ve known people who resolved to never have kids then ended up as great parents. I know people who really wanted kids and never were “blessed” (or cursed, depending on your point of view) with them.
The thing is, as you get older the likelihood is that you will have responsibilities. You may not, but you may. Mortgages. 401k. Car payment. You name it.
Do the things when you are young that you may not be able to do later.

But hey. You’re right. I’m wrong. What do I know?
