Best Regional for Australian E3 Visa Holders
#12
As some likely know Australians can come & fly in the USA via the E3 visa program , Skywest took the most but no longer need foreigners due improved contract
So the Aussies are out of "prime" ie: Skywest , Endeavour ,Republic, Envoy and the following guys don't take E3s Horizon, PSA , Air Wisky,
So Australians can apply to commutair, expressjet , Mesa , gojet, piedmont , trans state .
Trying to figure out which might be the best & have read many of the posts on similar comparisons , the criteria , that Australians will have will be different to the locals
Firstly they don't have any fixed abode & can go anywhere , so the "in your hometown" just isn't a factor. The motivation of most will be to spend 3/4 years there smash out 3000 + jet time , and get to LHS then reconsider. At that point either return home or consider options in Asia / ME or remain in USA
So a key criteria will be who has the "training" act together , do it fast and complete LOE asap , get checked to line & start pumping out the hours. Another important criteria will be to spend the least amount of time of reserve & also upgrade times
Flow (ie: Piedmont ) not sure that is a great carrot as it may well not be open to Australians
Again the most important criteria
1. Training Well organised / efficient
2. Minimum time on reserve
3. Minimum upgrade times
All constructive comments welcome , thank you

Upgrades at TSA are immediate if you have 1000 121 SIC or an appropriate combo of 91k/135. Guessing you won't qualify as a foreign guy, but if you happen to you can get hired into the left seat right now. Our training department wanted 12 folks for the October upgrade class and only got two to bid. The number on the line who are qualified for upgrade but are bypassing can be counted on one's fingers and toes, allegedly.
Limited reserve, especially in Denver. Flying out of Denver is technically challenging.
Fly a lot, period, but even (especially?) on reserve. Scheduling is what you'd expect for what they're paid but we as pilots are pay protected for all shenanigans nowadays. Schedules are almost all 4 days and could be built better on the front and back end, but we have a 4.25 hour min day. Trans States' soft pay rules are actually pretty good, although the per hour pay is no where near industry leading.
The biggest question mark with Trans States (the airline) and Trans States Holdings is how do they survive 5-10 years into the future with the consolidation going on in the industry due to a dearth of qualified candidates that are willing to work for regional airline pay. The US major airlines seem to be pulling a lot of flying in house at wholly owned regional airlines with flow agreements that encourage retention. United is one (current) exception, which TSA does all business with, currently. But it's unclear how TSH/TSA compete with Skywest and Republic (the big independent regionals) over the medium to long term. I don't plan to be there to find out but things could go sideways and I work with a lot of guys that could get burned if it doesn't work out, and I don't want to see that either.

The update is that Frontier and perhaps some other national airlines have started hiring E3 visa holders. Aim high first before limiting yourself to regionals.
