Ok, you mentioned MDT. My wife and I really want to move close to family near Lancaster, so I'm open to considering PDT if there is movement and MDT would be feasible. Last I heard, it was extremely senior after the merger. Any idea if this is still true?

MDT is senior for CA and junior for FO from what I hear. A good friend that finished training/IOE just a few weeks ago is now MDT based with Piedmont.... trying to transfer south and should be able to do so in June (hopefully).

PDT is getting pretty desperate for pilots (to the point that it sounds like they are delaying upgrades due to staffing problems). The $5K bonus is a sign that they are willing to accept applications from just about anybody.

FWIW, my friend was hired on with high TT, but very little ME (about 45 hrs).

I'll look into it. I've got solid times (1700tt/450me), but I've been out of the professional game for two years. Just been flying on the side(and instructing here and there) to maintain proficiency, so my recent time is low. That seems to be my biggest stumbling block right now. I can't get hired by an airline with the low recent times and no flight school/small 135 operator will give me a full schedule since they know I'll bail as soon as I rack up 100 hours.

MDT is SUPER senior on the CA side. For FO's it is senior for the top half of the list, then turns junior. The bad thing is, after about 6 months, you will have moved up as far as you can. Good crews in MDT tho. If you want to move to Lancaster, PDT would be a good fit, so would AWAC. It is about an hour and a half to PHL airport from Lancaster (I used to live in Lancaster and drive it 2-3 times a week).

I knew folks that got hired at PDT this time last year that didn't sit a single month of reserve in MDT. The fact that they're all at Skywest, RAH or not flying anymore notwithstanding, I'd bet its pretty easy to get that if you want.

PDT is advertising "no minimums" at Purdue...and even though 500/25 certainly ain't high time there is a big difference in ADM between somebody with 200 dual given and somebody with a wet-ticket multi-commercial.

I would love too, but I have to hold out for more ME, I have 750 & 20.
You sound like a perfect candidate for the Air Wisconsin farm team, er, Piedmont!

Living at home and driving to work is priceless. If you go there at the very least you will build good time gain valuable 121 experience and find out if it is the place for you. But seriously, being able to live where you like to be and not have to commute is as good as life gets in this business. AWAC in DCA is not too far away either, as the others have mentioned.

cbire880 05-02-2007 05:22 AM

AWAC in PHL would be ideal for me, but I'm doubtful with my lack of 121 experience and old 135 time that I'll get a call. I grew up just east of Lancaster, so the family is all there and my wife and I can move in with family during the lean times. I'm also looking at RAH out of PIT or DCA. I'd imagine the commute from PHL to PIT is pretty easy. I'm guessing I could try to hitch a ride out of LNS or RDG as well (although probably not many open seats).

Commuting PHL-PIT is not bad from what I gather. Lots of US Airways flights and a significant number of Southwest flights. I would MUCH rather be based in PIT than PHL though. Also, right now the RAH family has a better immediate future than does AWAC.

A regional is a regional, and there are no regionals worth commuting for.
