Totally Republic and MCI there. You'd spend less time commuting with a three hour drive than you would with an hour and a half flight. Plus, a 6am report in ORD could mean flying in the night before. A 6am report in MCI could just mean waking up early... never mind that at the end of your trip, you aren't waiting for a flight home.

Even if you ended up east for starters, 9E runs a few flights from DSM to LGA every day... at YX, you'd have priority over straight OAL commuters.

Republic. The first two cons you listed are outdated and no longer true (classes available quickly and upgrade can likely happen as soon as you hit 1K hours), and the last two are just wrong.

If your goal is AA, then go to Envoy.

You make it sound like it’s a bad thing?

Born and raised in Beaverdale, my man! I’ve commuted West Coast, East Coast and even the Caribbean.

Trust me man. You could be living in a hell of a lot worse. I always tell people, if it sucked well... I wouldn’t commute. I’ll always be here. It’s a hell of a place to live.

I’m ORD now, and as you can already tell, it’s stupid easy. Like brain dead I pay zero attention to schedules easy. You can drive it if you really had to as well.

My first regional was flying for Air Whiskey. I was DCA based. As you know they have an ORD base now.

I really enjoyed flying for them. Great crews and a good operation. Yes it’s the -200, but I definitely miss that thing some days after flying the Bus for awhile. It was a really fun bird.

I believe bonus money is something like $50k or more now. I still have a lot of old lifers there. As of today, I’m hearing you are upgrading the second you have your 1,000 121 SIC. I spent 4 years there and wasn’t able to upgrade. Things are much different now.

I would recommend looking into them.

Don't get me wrong I love Des Moines but commuting for reserve sounds pretty bad. I'll look more into Air Wisconsin. There are a ridiculous number of flights to ORD so that seems to be where I'm putting the majority of my research.

Beaverdale is a cool area. My parents owned their first home on Urbandale Ave for decades.

Thanks for jumping on with your input.

Oh right on man!

I gotcha. Yeah... reserve sucks, but it is what it is. There are a lot of good pads in Chicago.

The cool thing is, regionals are so short staffed and hiring so many that most of the time you will fly. You also will get off of reserve fairly quickly.

I rarely sat around on reserve with Whiskey. I would call up the day before and get a trip assigned.

I’d commute straight to El Bait Shop and the Iowa Taproom.
