Are people making lateral moves?

With all the talk of all the regionals badly needing pilots, where is the attrition? I know some from my company are being hired by majors and 'big freight' and fractionals, but what about other airlines?

Is there a lot of attrition from the F/O ranks of regional airlines? If so, where are they going?

Has anyone here made a lateral move and been happy with the result?

BTW, by asking this I am not thinking of such a move. I am sticking it out at my current place 'til something truly better comes along.

JoeyMeatballs 05-07-2007 12:41 PM

I think this has been posted before................... Some lateral movement, I went from COLGAN to XJT, couldnt be happier

BoilerUP 05-07-2007 12:45 PM

I know two and soon to be three folks that have left AWAC in the past four months for RAH...one was a 144xx and the rest have been 169xx

SAABaroowski,

Sorry to get off the topic but most of the CAL new hires are XJET CAs, right? But there is no official flow through agreement between the two, correct?

Thanks in advance.

long long long time

Mosyslack 05-07-2007 04:41 PM

I went from Air Midwest to Comair and could be happier. Had one good year before things started to go south at Comair. I'm on my way out for NetJets in two months.

FYI, upgrade at XJT is running 21-24 mos.

flynavyj 05-07-2007 08:15 PM

there've been lots of people at transstates making the lateral move over to chautauqua, think it has to be the living in STL still, flying the 145 still, getting better pay, QOL, and a 2500 signing bonus. Same time, the way the upgrade is at TSA right now, it could be a "questionable" move, but that's before street captains are hired.

kansas 05-07-2007 10:18 PM

Quite a few have left Lakes to go to SkyWest and Republic lately...hope that it works out for them...they're doing what is best for them, but it's not a move I plan on making.

schoolio 05-08-2007 11:41 AM

PDT to XJT here.

TSA was my 2nd airline and I am now at SKW. Much better:cool: . One thing to think about is the time required to upgrade. TSA was (could have changed) requiring 4000 TT minus 800 in company (3200TT). SKW wants 2500 TT. Mesa and Great Lakes are down to 1500 TT (ATP mins). Every airline has issues...so the grass is always greener on the other side. HAHA

if ya stayed at colgan you probably could be upgrading soon huh?

KiloAlpha 05-09-2007 05:14 AM

Probably. But I'm sure he'd rather be a happy FO based at home versus a disgruntled SF3 CA constantly getting f'd over by Colgan.

ghilis101 05-09-2007 05:34 AM

seems like hes getting some good time off every month at xjt. hes on this board more than i am, and i really have no life

Im going to ITaly for almost two weeks and I still have a 85+ hr line value..........

flyguyniner11 05-09-2007 07:00 AM

yeah everybody uses that type of rationalization until either two things happen....................YOUR STILL an FO dealing with their bull****.........................or your a CA making 50k (Barely)a year not getting any bites by the MAJORS an you realize that the past 5 years of your life has not only been less than lucrative, but you have been beaten up and treated like dirt the whole time by your company

I know I know I know CA's at COLGAN are leaving every day to DAL, SWA, CAL, UPS, AIrtran, JB blah blah I know all about it

flyguyniner11 05-09-2007 08:16 AM

or i get on w/ a major whileyour still an FO at xjt?

KiloAlpha 05-09-2007 08:19 AM

Most of the places Colgan captains are going aren't places I'm interested in . JB, AirTran, North American, Miami Air.. no thanks.

I doubt too many will be going to DAL, UPS, FDX, Cathay, Emirates, or lucrative corporate jobs flying anything larger than a CJ2.

IF you get on.. what if you get stuck at Colgan ? Given current upgrade time at XJT it is rather doubtful that you will be at a major and he will still be a FO.

Well upgrade is 2 years here at XJT at least thats what i am upgrading at. Whats it at Colgan? I got nothing against colgan but XJT was a much better choice for me. I made more money as a 2nd year FO at XJT than i would as a first year capt at Colgan.

KiloAlpha 05-09-2007 08:24 AM

A CA at Colgan is lucky to break $40k
