I was just trying to ruffle some feathers with that one. Everyone has their own opinions. If the smaller DC9, Fokker, and CR7/9 are (were) regional jets, then so is the 170. I didn't beg for the plane, it was just what they gave me; I was indifferent.. not that I'm complaining though.

I've got buddies at XJT and Republic. Overall, those operations are much better than Colgan for pay and quality of life. But, if you want a quicker upgrade to gain PIC, Colgan still has the edge. Saabs are old and don't work as well as 2007 E-170s, but the PIC is still just as good. When the Q400s come, the Saabs will still be around. Its all about what you want.

Let's be realistic though. You go to a place like Colgan, or any regional for that matter, because you're looking to build your turbine PIC and get the hell out. That being the case, it doesn't matter which regional you go to and makign a lateral move just doesn't make any real sense except for a few small exceptions (not having to commute or having an easier commute being the biggest).
I'm here to get my time and go. That's the only reason. Does anyone seriously intend to stay at the regionals for any real length of time? Get your competitive mins and get out. Go fly corporate or fractional or even cargo. Why subject yourself to wanna be airlines? Plain and simple, they all suck. Some might suck less but they all suck.
Some days Colgan sucks bad, some days it isn't bad at all. I've been here for 18 months with a Saab upgrade coming up shortly. I've been at two bases. I've never sat reserve unless I wanted to. I've never had a single month where I was under 75 hrs for pay, my lowest has been 85 hrs. For the last year I have averaged over 100hr of pay credit a month. the people I fly with are awesome and the plane is a blast to fly.
Yeah, flying to the same airports sucks, but you do that anywhere you go. Yeah, planes break but all planes do. Yeah sometimes the schedulers and dispatchers seem to have their heads up their anuses but so what. It all goes back to the purpose of being at a regional.
It's not to make a career, it's to be a stepping stone. Endure the suck and move on. Don't delay your progression for one minute longer than it needs to be by making a lateral move. Colgan isn't perfect. It is what it is. Knowing what I know now about Colgan when I first took the job, I still would have come.
Repeat after me: Get your time and move on...get your time and move on...get your time and move on...
