whodis,
Not to throw gasoline on the fire, but trying to commute HYA-LGA in March and April, Colgan MX cancelled on me twice. On less than ten attempts. Maybe the B1900s have more problems than the S340s? But Colgan does seem to have a higher rate of MX problems than elsewhere. (Over the last two years, I've had one flight MX cancel flying the CRJ for PSA & the ERJ at AE.) |

If the list goes on, do the statements on it start getting true? Or do they stay as rediculous as these are? Didn't you say you were in SCE? I talked to an SCE crew this week, and, the FO was new and said he got 90+ hours with weekends off on his first bid ever. How exactly do you define poor health insurance? I've had nothing but good experiences with Anthem the couple times I've dealt with them. We do have a 401K, so that is false. We don't have a match, was that what you meant? Upgrade is based primarily on seniority. There are members of the alpa organizing committee on the upgrade list. How do you suppose they got there? The last 3 hotels I've stayed in have been a Marriott, a Hilton, and a Radisson. Oh, and a Holiday Inn before that. So you're wrong there. Jealous about the CP drinking? Are you trying to be funny, or do you actually live in such a cartoon reality that something like this could be true? I'll assume you're trying to be funny and ignore it. How often are your A/C broken? You give a lot of generalizations, without many facts to back them up, so here is a fact for you: Since the start of March I have operated 140 flights. Of those 140 flights, I was delayed for maintenance once. That is 99.3% dispatch reliability. Now can you find a fact for me and tell me what the industry average is? Please name a specific instance when scheduling has tried to get you to break a FAR. I've been here a lot longer than you were, and it's never happened to me. I've never had a 14 hour day with only 4 hours of credit. Since the company pays 1/2 duty on long sits I find it unlikely that it ever will happen to me. We do have only 50% deadhead pay, and the planes do smell sometimes. Those are true, I wish the lav wasn't so close to the cockpit. It seems like you decided you were too good for Colgan pretty early on. I hope the grass turns out to be greener for you on the other side. Actually, that's not strictly true, I don't really care either way. Congratulations on your lateral move, I hope the regional jets are as shiny as they have been in your dreams. Q400= Still not as shiny, and still has Props:p :p |

You're right, as usual. Getting excited about the company taking on a new A/C type and a bunch of new flying is pretty silly. Maybe if we stopped with all this growth and lost 1/4 of our flying we could be cooler.
PS. I love the "lateral move" line..............in terms of what??????????? QOL, PAY, equipment, contract (Oh wait you don't have one). Go ahead and stay at COLGAN for the upgrade....................cause we all know going to a regional for just the upgrade is the smartest thing one can do, almost as smart as sticking up for an airline that steps on the backs of its employees on a daily basis...............GO COLGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Just like any airline Colgan has its good points and bad points:
Good Home every night (only good if you live there) Short Reserve (I had 2 months) You build time quickly Short upgrade (as long as you don't **** off manassass) Good experience lots of IMC and Ice Good Crews Good lines (weekends off very easily 12-18 days off in ALB dont know other bases) The SAAB is fun Good training quick turns Bad Pay/no per diem except IAH and doing TDY Crappy bases (Jamestown, Johnstown) Out station basing Understaffed (no sick days and they ask for doctor notes) Not enough aircraft Poor dispatchers (forget alternates, wrong a/c on releases, forget to put MEL's on releases) Extremely disorganized Poor ground support (no type IV in Presque Isle, Maine Nuff said) Aircraft have seen better days (but it makes flying them more exciting) MX program sux (how can you expect a mechanic to clear 8 MEL's in 12 hours or a mechanic in LGA might forget your engine oil cap and you almost fry an engine on takeoff) Planes swaps out the @#$ Same flights all the time (boring) Crew schedulers suck big time (except for Leroy) The Brain Factory Some people stay and some people go and we all have our reasons and they are all valid. Gonna miss you Albany. |
