Backfills don't really increase the number of actual upgrades from FO to CA.

Sure it does. 9 DCE could be 10 or more if current DCE bid CRJ.

Not to start a p!ssing match with you guys, but there will be exactly 79 FO to CA upgrades.

If more DCE slots open as those guys bid DCC of OCC, then the CRJ slots are filled by CA's not FOs. The numbers balance. Training will have more cycles, to be sure. But no more FOs will get to buy new hats, or sew another stripe on thier jackets.
