Build time then go where you want

Would it ever be advisable to go somewhere like Mesa where you can build 1k hours from what I’ve read in around a year and then jet off to Envoy If it’s your goal so you aren’t stuck getting 200 hrs a year there from what I’ve read.

It wouldn't kill you, but there is the risk of additional training events (minimized greatly if you stick with the same type).

You'll need to be prepared to explain the lateral move at a major interview... but the good news is it doesn't take much explaining to justify leaving mesa!

High risk, high reward but Theoretically yes

1) “somewhere like mesa” is not a thing. Mesa is unique.

2) 1k hours might be possible in 12 months but not 12 months from date of hire. The seniority hit on transfer is probably more like 16-18 months which is a lot

3) all bets are off for the next year in aviation. Past performance is NOT going to predict future results

4) a reasonable alternative scenario might be a little more time at mesa then a lcc or acmi

If you want to go to Envoy I assume flow is part of the reason. It really makes no sense at all to delay your hiring date when flow is determined by hire date. If you did just that in 5-7 years or whatever it is from now you would be kicking the crap out of yourself over that decision when you start watching the Envoy guys hired the same time you started at Mesa start flowing over and you have another 18 months to go. Think about the money you would lose. It’s not actually the money in the front end at the FO salary it’s 18 months less on the back end of your career at the highest pay scale you will achieve. That is likely north of a half million. Is a few more hours with that? Ummm no, no it’s not.

If you want to go to Envoy, just go to Envoy. You can build time at one airline build time but with the lateral move, the fight times will equal out with down time not flying the line due to training events plus you are giving up seniority which is valuable in terms of QOL, Flow date, money, and furlough protection.

That first year is the hard part. Once you get some seniority then you’ll get off reserve and get plenty of flying with a better schedule. No reason to do year one twice if you have a choice.

I don’t think you have to worry about any of these options because it could be years before a 121 hires again. I also wouldn’t be surprised if one of your choices will no longer be flying a year from now.

I always hated this advise and those who gave it out did so recklessly. Never think of a Regional as a place where you are only going to be spending a short period of time. Do you research and pick a Regional that is stable and has good QOL rules. Go somewhere that you wouldn't mind being stuck at for a few more years then expected, because that is what everybody at their current Regional is going to do now (if that Regional survives this, which a couple haven't already).

Those who you usually see give this advice have been out of the Regional industry for years. They are so out of touch with what is going on here they have no business giving this reckless advice.

Edit: I guess I should have read your post before replying. My statement still stands though. And going to a Regional with your goal to transfer to another regional in a year is one of the most mindboggling (insert a "kinder" word for "stupid" here because I don't want to be insulting) things I have seen on these boards over the last year.
