Southwest just pulled the plug in the pool...

Well boys and girls, looks like this it! The poolies at Southwest just got there CJO's cancelled. It appears all of us waiting for new hire class dates are next. Can't say I didn't see this coming but gee whizz man! If we still have our CJO's after this fiasco I'm probably going to the casinos in Vegas. Hope y'all got stable jobs right now.

That REALLY sucks! I don't get it, you all successfully interviewed.. What's the harm in leaving the pool where it is? Sorry to hear man

Typical to flush the pool in an extended downturn. There are exceptions, I was surprised to learn that some pre 9/11 NWA poolies retained their status (with DL) for many years.

Man, I guess. I can't imagine getting that dream job CJO and then having to start over later

Yup. Suck.

I new guys who had a date after in late Sep or Oct 2001, same.

The guys who classed up on Sep 10 got furloughed (at least once), but are CA's now.

Right? You were, presumably, the most qualfied before hell froze over; and it's not like anyone else in this market is going to get more competitive, relatively speaking.

Something tells me he/she isn't in the Southwest pool.

To go from this in October:
"Currently a CFI and have about 500 more hours before I reach ATP mins."

...to this in March:
"I am or I guess was a new hire in one of the upcoming classes. I did not find out about the hiring freeze from Envoy, but from you guys/gals on APC and my friends in this airline. I wish they would come out with an email or phone call telling us what the heck is going on for all of us. So far, us new hires are still left in the dark and it has been nothing but crickets."

...to being flushed out of the Southwest pool in May would be interesting to say the least.

LOL! This is like they guy that was 17, and his parents didn’t want him to be a pilot, to a 10yr captain at a major in one year.

i had wondered why the OP posted this in the regionals section. But if trolling, it makes much more sense.

FlyPurdue 05-12-2020 05:49 AM

It sounds like the OP is waiting on a class date at a regional, and using the SWA CJO cancelation as an example that the regionals are next in canceling outstanding CJOs.

FWIW...

LOL I wish I had a class date at Southwest haha. Sorry if I wasn’t specific enough. I’m waiting on a class date at one of the regionals. I’m just saying if SWA is doing this then this looks like all the other majors and regionals are going to fall in there footsteps with us.

Gotcha, well Regional CJOs may stay if domestic airline travel picks back up quickly. If we are not 80% of pre covid domestic traffic by 1 Oct I would expect for all Regional CJOs to be withdrawn also.

Regionals are far more likely to honor a CJO, simply to save the cost of doing it all over again.

Majors are more concerned about upholding their standards, after some period of time, two things might change.

1) After years, the applicant might not be quite the same person, especially if he goes non-current, gets a DUI, gets fat, gets bitter, etc, etc

2) When hiring resumes, they might have a better pool to choose from, might prefer to throw back what they already caught and try to get their limit of bigger fish.

Minus the DUI, I managed to pull off the above in 6 weeks!

R0GER BALL 05-12-2020 08:51 AM

Before the CJOs go, the cadet programs will get *******canned.... There is a cost. If regionals are thinking they’ll pull back hard on hiring they simply won’t need cadets and/or the programs.

It’s what I’m watching to get a bead on the future. Today they still exist.

Mitchell Gant 05-12-2020 11:31 AM

I doubt it will be tough to find applicants after this is all over

This^^, in today's environment there's too much risk letting a CJO float for more than a few months.

Thank you, sir! I must admit I had the head start of being fat and bitter before my Covid-19 furlough. It just took 6 weeks for me to officially lose currency, that's all.

I'd expect nothing less from the #1 Snack basket committee chairman in the world!
