Colgan Interview June 29
 

This will be my first interview, not even sure where to go once I'm there...lol. Any tips on what to study other than the gouges? Does anyone have any insight on what the sim eval is like? Thanks in advance!

I can tell you what NOT to do at a SkyWest interview, but I don't know anything about Colgan. Except that SAAB guy seems not to like them...

Is your interview in Houston? In that case, Flight Safety is about 45 minutes away from the airport. You'll need to rent a car... you can save money on a rental by carpooling with other interviewees. The written seemed to be mostly ATP Gleim stuff. Sim eval was take off, direct to a VOR and hold, then vectors to an ILS. The interview itself was literally like 5 minutes.. three or so technical questions (holding speeds, describe the hydraulic system and something else I can't remember) and a few questions that the interviewer asked as he looked over my application. Very casual and relaxed process.

Over the phone they said that they were flying me into New York, so I assume it is there. I havent gotten the email packet yet.

New York will be at LGA. There are shuttle buses that run around the airport from terminal to terminal. You'll want to take the A route.

Definitely study Jepps, including their presentation of alternate and takeoff minimums. If you've never used them before, Jeppesen offers a book of all the legends of all charts they publish. It's called "Introduction to Jeppesen Navigation Charts." Worked pretty well for me. You can't order it online, you have to call Jeppesen, only costs $5 or $10.

P.S. Colgan only flies day trips, so if you're not local, you'll most likely have to move/crashpad to your base

Probaly at Flight Safety. When you arrive, go down to the terminal to terminal buses, and go to the M.A.T. (Marine Air Terminal), where Delta Shuttle flys out of. Left of the M.A.T is Flight Safety.

Good luck driver! Please give a post on your experience when you get a chance. I am considering Colgan also. I am sure there are those that will have their negative input but Colgan has 3 bases around my region and would present a good QOL for me. Plus I served 4 years USMC, so I am sure Colgan won't scare me like a little school girl as was the case for others on here that dont know how to make the best of a situation and honor a contract. Colgan is good for the reason's listed by many of their pilots on here. I appreciate all the posting's both positive and negative. But lets face it, all airlines, hell, all professions have their pro's and cons. Its up to the individual to make it work. Are you hard or soft? Cant keep running to the other side of the fence continually thinking the grass is greener. Again, Good Luck!

Colgan may work for you if you live near one of their bases. Keep in mind though outstation basing probably won't be around much longer. Pittsburg, Newark, Albany, LGA, and IAD (maybe PVD or Charleston WV) are the bases of the future. Sorry, can't cite my sources. It has nothing to do with being hard vs. soft, it's more about intelligence and risk vs. reward. How much return are you going to get on investing your time in the company, and is it more or less then if you went to another company. Only you can answer that question, goodluck!

Just FYI, whenever someone leaves for some place else, I always ask them is the grass greener on the other side. I have yet to be told no, it's great motivation.

I live north of PVD and south of MHT. And what I meant was the grass is not ALWAYS greener on the other side. I just have read posts from people that sound like thay have a fragile mind set which leads to my hard or soft comment. Nothing to do with intelligence. If you served in the military you would grasp my figure of speech. If one was spoon fed and mommy and daddy gave them everything then sure, Colgan will send them running. Oh well, like many have said, Colgan is not for everyone. So dont say soft or hard has NOTHING to do with it. Its up to the individual's ability to adapt and push through.
