The Travel Pro has a 3 year warranty, and rolls well too. The only thing that needs to be improved is the wheels. The wheel system its self is good, you just have to replace the wheels with rollerblade wheels after they give out, and then the bag is good-as-new again. The purdy neat is a good bag too, it's empty weight has to be around 15 lbs, but I guess you buy it for the steel. Just remember to alternate arms each trip or you'll be ripped on one side and weak on the other, leading to a tendency to overreact to a right cross-wind if you are right handed or vise versa.
The ballistic flight kit is the way to go until you want to buy the $500 Scott I-am-a-pimp leather flight case. Just make sure that it is small enough to fit on the side in the cockpit. My cheapo fake leather bag fits, but only barely. Should have gone ballistic. |
I've had a travel pro for seven years. Very good bag and prefer them compared to prudyneat. The prudyneat bags are just to heavy. Also who wants a bag to last forever? I normally keep a bag for 5-6 years. They still are in good condition, I just get sick looking at the same bag over and over.

The leather ones can last for decades. I would assume the nylon ones would too, so compare prices. But you can't put cool stickers on nylon.
I am not sure what my soon to be employer's (Mesaba) policy is about stickers on luggage. But yes, I had given some consideration to the sticker issue... ;) |
PNT and Scott flight bag are what I use...and a Telex 850. All 3 not cheap, but will last a long, long time. I did wait till my Capt upgrade to purchase all three though.

I use a 7 dollar duffle from wal-mart for a flight-case. Do that until you actually fly so you can get a good idea of what other people use and what fits well.

Purdy Neat 27" Roll On Luggage Works Flight Bag (the tall one) Telex 850. I've spent thousands on my education. Another $1,000 for quality is well worth it. 8L |
I have the PNT 737 bag. It is awesome. When I deadhead or non-rev, I usually valet the bag, and when I am standing next to the other passengers waiting for our bags, I get envious looks when they see what I pull off the cart while they pull off their busted bag. I haven't been at this long, but you can't beat that bag. I bought the $60 rolling case from Staples. So far it is ok and fits in the hole in the 145, but on my first trip, I lost both of the feet on the bottom opposite the wheels. The wheels work out ok for the day trips when I don't carry an overnight bag. Next time it will be the Scott case, or at the very least the ballistic case.
