UAL dumps XJT

Figured this deserves its own thread.

Company just sent out an e-mail explaining UAL is going with CommutAir and ditching XJT.

We all really do wish you would- at least- explain What you mean by “Based”

Or am I just slow on the uptake?

He meant "biased". Either they didn't hire him, or he's OO and got sick over the years of EV pilots blaming him personally for the ongoing situation between CAL, EV, DAL, ACY, and SGU.

I was explaining a slang term that someone misinterpreted. I don't use the term myself, but the nature of slang is it enters the popular lexicon before it's recorded in a dictionary. Before 2019, you wouldn't find the word "swole" in the dictionary, but you'd certainly hear gym bros throw it around. But, look what happened: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/swole

Language is a funny thing and it's constantly changing, but nice try.

same same. . . I guess this is what happens when you bastardize a language. It’s like a set of twins with their own language. I’m not even close to being a boomer.

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines "baby boomer" as "a person born during a period of time in which there is a marked rise in a population's birthrate", "usually considered to be in the years from 1946 to 1964".[10]Pew Research Center defines baby boomers as being born between 1946 and 1964.[11] The United States Census Bureau defines baby boomers as "individuals born in the United States between mid-1946 and mid-1964."[12][13] The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines the "post-World War II baby-boom generation" as those born between 1946 and 1964,[14][15] as does the Federal Reserve Board which uses 1946–1964 to define baby boomers.[16]Gallup defines baby boomers as those born from 1946 through 1964.[17]

Such a boomer thing to not understand that slang is a thing. Boomer does not necessarily mean baby boomer, but rather just exhibiting the same mindset of a baby boomer will earn you the title boomer. Boomer.

Wait what? Can you describe what a boomer mindset is exactly? I always understood "boomer" to be someone born between a specific post WWII time frame.

Again, what is this mindset? Can you quantify it for me? Is there something specific or is it just a derogatory term used against someone that doesnt agree with your logic, beliefs or thinking? Serious question.

That seems to be what it means. I guess I’m a boomer then for thinking that we should just say what we mean. People aren’t woke, they are hypersensitive. Saying that all life is sacred and matters isn’t racist. There is a difference between peacefully protesting and rioting, looting, and damaging property. The cancel culture is counterproductive to a free society, etc. Today we seem to demonize the messenger rather than honestly debate the message. If that defines a boomer, then I sure won’t consider being called a boomer a derogatory term, it means that one is capable of thinking independently rather than mindlessly reciting the mob narrative.

Quoting the talking point you heard from the host of your favorite cable “news” show, regardless if that’s CNN or FOX NEWS, is a boomer thing to do.

Actually go out and decide for yourself. Turn off the TV and go figure out what you believe in for yourself instead of being told by Tucker or Como what to believe.

Edit: I actually used ‘simp’ the other day, and was accused of promoting toxic masculinity and the patriarchy. I guess I’ll stick to ‘soft ass *****’ from now on 😂

I do read different sides of issues and think for myself. Don’t really care what the left or right thinks. It’s not about talking points. People won’t have a civil debate on issues anymore. Everything is driven by emotion as opposed to data. Rather than honestly debate an issue, both sides attack the messenger and try to attach labels. The problem is that if you even question a given narrative you are shouted down by the opposition as being racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. By doing this, the accused has to jump through hoops to discredit the accusation rather than defend and discuss a given position, which in turn makes people unwilling to talk about issues. Having an honest discussion today is like arguing with your wife. The concept has been changed to mean that you need to listen to what I say and agree, anything short of this is unacceptable. If you oppose defunding the police because you think that it would have a negative impact on poor and minority communities, you’re a racist. If you support same sex marriage, you’re attacking Christian values and destroying our culture. Both sides play the game. All I was saying is that people should think for themselves and say what they mean rather than fall in line with the herd mentality. Once they have thought out an issue, be willing to have a civil, data driven debate with people with different views. Again, if this makes me a boomer, it isn’t an insult.
