depends on the airframe. right now, most junior captain is going to the CRJ and that was hovering between 22-26 months.

I think the real question is "Will I be ready"?

With attrition and hiring going the way it is, this is rapidly becoming a 'sooner, not later' issue.

There's a lot more to being a Captain than just flying with your left hand. FOs should take every opportunity to get involved in what their Captain is doing, particularly on the ground...and Captains should see FOs as 'Captains in training' and should make every attempt to involve them in decision making.

Mark my words, upgrade will be 18 months come next Feb. (attrition and hiring remaining the same over the next 8 to 12 months and we all know how crap changes in this industry.)

No sir. It's does matter cause if the PIC time is not going to your logbook the PIC you are doing is no good cause that does not count as PIC if it's not logged. When you try to interview for majors that part 121 PIC turbine time is gonna matter.

What? That has absolutely nothing to do with shackone's post...and if you think the only thing that matters as a CA is logging PIC time then you're gonna have a rough entry into 121.

You use PIC three times in one sentence. I call that babbling.

Well no one ever said you needed to be eloquent to be a pilot.

Someone should have, though.
