Good luck in Hobby, my buddies that were just there said it was pretty nasty area. I would recommend the "Buddy" system when not securely locked into your hotel room. You'll have fun the flight instructors were all awesome and extremely helpful. They really went above and beyond, all you have to do is talk to them about what frustrates you or your having a hard time with and they will do whatever they can for you.
So what do you all do to keep sharp? I have been running the flows each day. but it is quite different which you all know, oh well looks like party time for the next month. can't wait to see ya'll on the line

The 3-8 week thing is consistent with what I've been hearing, so you can safely plan on two without worrying about where you are. After that, don't venture far from home. I know one guy that was 12 hrs away from home by plane, but he made it back before they called.
They gave me and some others less than 24hrs notice to report for IOE. They also may have you away from home for 10 days at a time with just your overnighter- so keep your bags packed.
As far as keeping sharp, the flows are good, expanded checklists are better. Peruse your manuals and try to figure out ground ops for at least the hubs using your Jepps. It's the ground ops that kicked my ***.
Hobby is a dump compared to anywhere else that they use; even the instructors will tell you that. Use the shuttle if/when at Hobby as some of our guys were mugged a while back.

Hobby is a nasty area so hopefully I can get everything knocked out pretty quick. Every instructor that I've met so far has been awesome. At first I was worried about getting a new instructor for each FTD lesson, but every instructor seems to be as cool as the last one. Plus, I think it is good because I get to see different techniques.

Still Amerisuites which is a lot nicer then the Holiday Inn. Atleast they have free breakfast that my class mates enjoyed, however i couldn't do to being in the sim from 4:30am till 11:00am. Oh well, enjoyed it on my two days off as much as one can enjoy free breakfast (it's free for a reason).

hehe... well, Skynut, congrats on making it through! I was in DFW in that same POS sim last November. Did you at least get a chance to try Spring Creek BBQ across the freeway?
Yeah, it doesn't take much to beat the Helliday Inn and Mediocre Eats at IAH. BLAH!!
