ya know, in all my years of flying. I have never once flown passed a railway.. I could not agree with you more. the RLA is a rediculously antiquated doctorine which should not have applied to aviation since deregulation. there are only 2 possible solutions to make this right. 1 is reregulation. 2 is ousting the RLA....

In my travels I have occasion to speak with various ALPA national officers. When I ask them about changing the RLA their answer is always, "We are afraid of what we might get." "The political enviroment is not right yet."

Maybe a further swing to the Left (next election) will allow ALPA to work towards a meaningful change to the RLA. Time will tell.

This country is already too left with a (quasi)Republican in office. If you start posting Vote for Hilary in '08, I'm gonna kick you in your (cyber) nuts.
Seriously though, when is ALPA going to get some balls? I was hoping Prater would change things but so far I only see him caving. Gotta support 65 because we want more say if it gets changed. Same with changing the RLA it seems. Good thing the founders of this nation weren't afraid of what may have happened if they lost.

I think we should all go home on NOV 15 and only come back after congress makes us all federal civil servants with a set payscale, full pension, and a union. Then the airlines can "rent" us from the federal government under some arrangement that's transparent to us.

If 90% of us walked they would have to cave in within 48 hours.

You know what? That is actually a good idea.

1) Congress will not allow Transportation to go without workers, it keeps our country in motion. 15% of our GDP derived from transportation industry.

2) They cannot replace us like they did with ATC. Too many pilots with a knowledge base over many different types of airplanes.

3) The guaranteed pension would be worth it alone. (Providing our country still exists financially in the next 20-30 years.

4) We could never get fired. (Ever try firing a Govt. worker . . .) Never happens, no matter how poorly they perform.

5) We can become an AMTRAK.

6) If the government needs to make more money, then they just charge more for our services, pilots of course would have a clause that states "Pilots receive 30% of any and all rates increases including hourly, fees, surcharges, etc."

I really LOVE the IDEA! Nice one RickAir777
