PS I understood this question as XJT branded side which is mostly XR's. On the CAL side the LR's are rarely, the ER's always, and the XR's obviously can go far with a full load

As SAAB said, I've never seen an XR restricted. Rarely with an LR. Often with an ER usually because of MLW. However, the company is upgrading the ER fleet to have the same MLW as the LR fleet. I flew one last week, which should alleviate the problem.
Most of our crews will do everything they can to legitimately get you in the jumpseat, but if an aircraft is weight restricted and leaving paxs behind. Its impossible for the captain to justify putting you on the flight.

Thanks for the info guys.
The flight I want to get on tonight is showing full and I am wondering what the chances are I will make it home (ie. be able to sit up front w/o issues).
I understand they won't leave pax behind for me even though they should cuz I'm special.

As Coach Lee Corso says, "Not so fast, my friend."
I had an XR that was weight restricted to 43 on flight from EWR-YYT, with alternates of YTJ (or whateverthehell Stephenville is) and YHZ. But that is the 1st and only time I've seen an XR restricted.
Carry on...
